Distributed Deployment

In a distributed deployment scenario, the eSight Platform and service components are deployed on the same server, while collectors and distributed nodes for service components are deployed on another server. Distributed deployment applies to large-scale networks.

Network Traffic Collector (NTC)

When more than 10 devices need network traffic management, the NTC must be deployed on an independent server. eSight supports only one NTC.

WLAN location server

When the quantity of APs exceeds 1000, the WLAN location server must be deployed independently. eSight supports only one WLAN location server.

Installing the eSight Server

This topic describes how to install the eSight server in a distributed deployment scenario.

The primary eSight server in a distributed deployment scenario can be installed in the same way as in a centralized deployment scenario. For details, see Centralized Deployment.

  • If the network traffic server needs to be installed, select Network Traffic Analyzer rather than Network Traffic Collector when installing the primary eSight server.
  • If the WLAN positioning server needs to be installed, install the WLAN Manager when installing the primary eSight server.

Installing the NTC

This section describes how to install the NTC when the NTC is deployed on a server different from the eSight server. eSight supports only one NTC server.

Prerequisites
  • You have obtained the installation software. For details, see Obtaining eSight Server Installation Software.
  • The NTA has been installed on the eSight server.
  • The NTC has not been installed on the eSight server.
  • The network adapter of the NTC has been enabled.
  • A static IP address has been configured for the NTC server.
  • If a remote terminal is used for installation, the remote terminal must provide a GUI, and the SUSE Linux operating system must be configured to support remote GUI login. For details, see How to Use the VNC to Remotely Log In to SUSE Linux.
Context
  • During the installation, the system automatically detects whether the OpenSSH service is enabled. If the OpenSSH service is disabled, the system forcibly enables it.
  • When the installation is complete, the system automatically creates a common user for the operating system. The user name is ossuser and its default password is Changeme_123. To change the password, see eSight Maintenance Guide.

    While installing the NTC on a different server, no database needs to be installed on the NTC server.

Procedure
  1. Add the IP address of the distributed server to the whitelist on the eSight server.

    1. Log in to the eSight server as the ossuser user.
    2. Execute the following script:

      # cd opt/eSight installation directory/mttools/tools

      # ./addDistributedIP.sh

      NOTE:

      If the tool window cannot be displayed in the Linux operating system, see What Can I Do If the Tool Window Is Not Displayed in the Linux Operating System.

    3. In the dialog box that is displayed, set NTCSlave Address and click Confirm.

      NOTE:

      If multiple NTCs are deployed, use semicolons (;) to separate their IP addresses.

    4. Log in to the NTC server as the root user.
    5. Create a temporary directory, for example, /opt/install, on the NTC server to store installation files.

      # mkdir /opt/install

  2. Upload the NTC installation package to the /opt/install directory and run the following commands in the CLI to decompress the installation package.

    • The eSight installation files must be stored in a local path.
    • The directory and absolute path of the installation file contain only letters, digits, and underscores (_) and must start with a letter or underscore. In addition, the length of the absolute path cannot exceed 50 characters. Otherwise, the installation will fail.

    # cd /opt/install

    # unzip eSight_VxxxRxxxCxxSPCxxx_NTC_SUSE.zip -d /opt/install/NTC

    NOTE:

    In the preceding command, VxxxRxxxCxxSPCxxx indicates the eSight software version.

  3. Run the following commands to start the eSight installation program:

    # cd /opt/install/NTC

    # chmod u+x setup.sh

    # ./setup.sh

  4. Read the license agreement, select Read and Accept License Agreement, and click Install.

    NOTE:

    The system automatically checks whether the current environment meets requirements for installing the eSight software. If the current environment does not meet the requirements, a message will be displayed. Perform operations as prompted to ensure that all items meet the requirements and then install eSight again.

  5. In the Set Installation Parameters window, set installation parameters and click Next.

    To ensure successful eSight installation, verify that the eSight installation directory is empty before the installation.

    • Server Port: Use the default port number 8080.
    • Installation Directory: The default value is /opt/eSight. You can manually change the directory. eSight cannot be installed in the root directory.

    If the specified installation directory does not exist, the system displays a dialog box, asking you whether to create an installation directory. In this dialog box, click Yes.

  6. In the Set NTA Server Parameter window, set NTA parameters and click Next.

    NOTE:

    NTA IP Address: In the southbound and northbound isolation scenario, set this parameter to the southbound IP address of the NTA server. In the southbound and northbound non-isolation scenario, set this parameter to the externally available system IP address of the NTA server.

  7. In the Select Software Components To Be Installed window, click Next.

  8. In the Summary window, confirm installation information and click Next.

    NOTE:

    If the installation information is incorrect, click Previous to reset installation information.

  9. The system starts to install the eSight NTC. After it is installed, the Installation Completed window is displayed. Click Finish.

    NOTE:

    The installation takes about 5 minutes.

Installing the RTLS Server

In the distributed server deployment mode, the eSight RTLS service needs to be deployed on a server different from the eSight server.

  7. In the Select Software Components To Be Installed window, click Next.

    NOTE:

    Component functions are controlled by licenses. If you do not purchase licenses, the functions will be unavailable after installation.

  8. In the Summary window, confirm installation information and click Next.

    NOTE:

    If the installation information is incorrect, click Previous to reset installation information.

  9. The system starts to install the eSight RTLS server. After it is installed, the Installation Completed window is displayed. Click Finish.

    NOTE:

    The installation takes about 5 minutes.
