Adding a Server Fails

Symptom

A user fails to add an eSight server (running Windows operating system) using a maintenance tool. This message is displayed: Connection failed. Check whether the IP address, port number, and user password are correct. For details, see eSight Maintenance Guide.

Possible Causes

  • When adding an eSight server using a maintenance tool, ensure that the OpenSSH Server service on the to-be-added server is running properly. In this scenario, however, the OpenSSH Server service is not running.
  • The eSight has integrated the OpenSSH Server service, which can be started by the ossuser user. ossuser is automatically created by the eSight for starting OpenSSH Server in a distributed environment.

As the Administrator user, run the following command in the CLI to check the status of the ossuser user:

net user ossuser

The user password has expired.

The expired ossuser user password leads to the OpenSSH Server service startup failure. This further leads to the server adding failure.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the to-be-added server as the Administrator user.
  2. Reset the password for the ossuser user. For details, see Changing the Password of the User for Windows in eSight Maintenance Guide.
  3. Change the access password for the OpenSSH Server service.

    1. Right-click This PC-Shortcut and choose Manage.
    2. On the Local Server page, select Computer Management from the TASKS drop-down list box in the upper right corner.
    3. On the Computer Management page, choose Services and Applications from the navigation tree.
    4. In the right pane, click Services.
    5. In the service list, right-click the OpenSSH Server service and choose Properties from the shortcut menu.
    6. In the dialog box that is displayed, click the Log On tab.
    7. Set Password and Confirm password to the same password as that at step 2.
    8. Click OK.

  4. Restart the OpenSSH Server service.

    In the service list, right-click the OpenSSH Server service and choose Start from the shortcut menu.
