Synchronizing Network Device Alarms

Synchronizing Network Device Alarms

  1. Enable the alarm synchronization function.
    1. Enable the alarm synchronization function for the device.
      NOTE:

The alarm synchronization function of eSight supports CE, S, and AR devices. For details, see the specification list.

The following uses Huawei CE6850EI V200R003C00 as an example. For details about other device types, see the device configuration manual.

      • SNMPv3
        <Device> system-view
[~Device] snmp-agent target-host trap address udp-domain 10.10.10.10 source 10ge 1/0/1 udp-port 162 params securityname snmpv3user v3 privacy private-netmanager ext-vb //10.10.10.10 is the IP address of the eSight server. (If the southbound and northbound network isolation solution is used, this IP address is the southbound IP address of eSight.) 10GE 1/0/1 is the configured interface for reporting device trap packets. 162 is the port number of trap packets. You are advised not to change the port number to other values. To change the port number, contact Huawei technical support. Set securityname to the user name.
        [*Device] commit
        [~Device] quit
        <Device> save
      • SNMPv2c
        <Device> system-view
<~Device> system-view [~Device] snmp-agent target-host trap address udp-domain 10.10.10.10 source 10ge 1/0/1 udp-port 162 params securityname Public_123 v2c private-netmanager ext-vb //10.10.10.10 is the IP address of the eSight server. Set securityname to the read community.
        [*Device] commit
        [~Device] quit
        <Device> save
      NOTE:

The snmp-agent target-host trap command is used to set the target host for receiving trap messages. For the same NMS, in a remote HA system, you need to configure two snmp-agent target-host trap commands, with the destination hosts being the active and standby servers respectively. In other scenarios, only one snmp-agent target-host trap command can be configured.

Impacts for setting the private-netmanager and ext-vb parameters are as follows:

      • Alarm synchronization mode change on the device

Set the private-netmanager and ext-vb parameters on the device. (The device alarm synchronization function is enabled.) If standard traps are required, you can disable the device alarm synchronization function. After the function is disabled, the device reports standard traps that do not contain the serial number, timestamp, level, serial number, and trap type. Since alarms received before the alarm synchronization mode is changed do not contain information such as the serial number, these alarms cannot be identified during alarm synchronization and will be deleted. Then, eSight re-synchronizes these alarms from the device. The impact is that the time when an alarm is reported to eSight is changed and the value of Occurrence Times on the current alarm page increases by one.

      • Alarm correlation

The correlation calculation depends on the time when the alarm is reported to eSight. However, the alarm reporting time is the same for all synchronized alarms. Therefore, correlation calculation is not performed for synchronized alarms.

    2. Enable the alarm synchronization function of eSight.
      NOTE:

By default, the alarm synchronization function has been enabled for eSight. This step is required only when the alarm synchronization function is disabled. The procedure for disabling the alarm synchronization function is similar to that for enabling the alarm synchronization function. The difference is that switch needs to be set to false for disabling the alarm synchronization function.

      • Log in to the eSight server.
      • Open the {eSight installation directory}/AppBase/etc/ent.fm/syncPoll.xml file and set switch to true to enable the alarm synchronization function.
  2. Restart eSight.
  3. Choose Fault > Alarm Synchronism from the main menu.

  4. Synchronize alarms based on the site requirements.

    Task

    Operation

    NE synchronization

Choose Synchronize Network, select an alarm source device, and click OK.

    Network-wide synchronization

    Choose Synchronize Network.

After alarms are synchronized, the alarm synchronization result of the corresponding NE is displayed in the Synchronization Status column.
