Monitoring ONU UNI

Monitoring ONU UNI

End terminal faults occupy 50% of the overall GPON network faults. However, eSight cannot directly monitor the status of end terminals. You can monitor the ONU user network interfaces (UNIs) to obtain the communication status between end terminals and ONUs. eSight provides two methods for monitoring the ONU UNIs, and you can choose either of them.

Context

You are advised to solve ONU UNI status abnormality according to methods listed in Table 17-26.

Table 17-26 ONU UNI abnormality, cause, and solution

ONU UNI Status

Cause and Solution

Offline activation

  • A common cause is that the ONU has not gone online. You need to check the ONU device configuration.
  • Other possible causes include device fault and optical fiber (cable) fault. You need to replace the faulty component correspondingly.

Deactivated

The possible causes include device fault and optical fiber (cable) fault. You need to replace the faulty component correspondingly.

Faulty

  • If the port or ONU is faulty, replace the port or ONU.
  • If the end terminal is faulty, rectify the fault.

Procedure

  • View the ONU UNI status through the ONU's NE Manager.
    1. Choose Resource > PON from the main menu.
    2. Choose PON Resource > ONU from the navigation tree on the left.
    3. Click the name next to a specific ONU in the ONU list. The ONU's NE Manager is displayed. Related information is displayed as shown in the following figure.
