This section describes background and usage of device software management.


With the rapid development of network technologies and expansion of the network scale, an enterprise needs to manage and maintain as many as hundreds of network devices. This inspires urgent needs for simplified device management because network administrators spend a long time on performing repeated simple operations on these massive devices. Enterprises require that their network administrators can manage devices in batches to improve working efficiency.


The device software management function supports version upgrade and signature database upgrade. This allows network administrators to upgrade and manage devices in batches, improving their working efficiency.

  • Software version upgrade: After a device's software version is upgraded, bugs in the earlier version are fixed, device functions are enhanced, or new functions are provided. When a new software version is available, you are advised to upgrade the device to the latest version.
  • License file uploading: After a device's software version is upgraded, new functions are provided. To use these functions, you need to upload the corresponding license files.
  • Software patch uploading: When new software patches are available, you are advised to upload the software patches to fix bugs in the earlier version.
  • Signature database upgrade: When a new signature database version is available, you are advised to upgrade the signature database to improve security protection capabilities.
