Setting the Email Server

Setting the Email Server

You can set the email server parameters for remote alarm notification. When an alarm or event is reported, the eSight sends the alarm or event to users by email.

  1. Choose System > System Settings > System Interconnection from the main menu.
  2. On the Set Notified Server > Email Server page, set the email server, sender address and server port.

    • The default port for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) is 25, and that for Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and Transport Layer Security (TLS) is 465. Ensure that the server port is correct for successful email transmission.
    • If antivirus software is installed on the eSight server, ensure that email transmission is not prohibited by the software.
    • If you set the domain names but not the IP addresses, the connectivity test may fail because the domain name server (DNS) may fail to parse the domain names. Go to Step 3 to configure extra domain name information on the eSight server.

  3. Configure the domain name of an email server.

    • Windows
      1. Open the DNS configuration file (path: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\drivers\etc\hosts) of the eSight server.
      2. Append information (IP address and related domain name) similar to the following to the file:
    • Linux
      1. Run the following command to open the DNS configuration file of the eSight server (rights of the root user may be required to write information to the file):
        su - root
        vim /etc/hosts
      2. Append information (IP address and related domain name) similar to the following to the file:
      3. Run the :wq! command and press Enter to save the settings and exit the edit mode.

  4. Click Apply.

Click Test to check the connection to the Email server. The system displays a message showing the connection status. When you test the server connection, if the entered parameter is incorrect, the response will be slow and it might take some time.
