Upgrading IADs

Upgrading IADs

You can use the eSight to upgrade the host software for the IAD.

Impact

The upgrade will interrupt the IAD service and the communication between the IAD and the eSight for about 10 minutes.

Precautions

If you enable NAT traversal, the FTPS service becomes unavailable. The Upgrading IADs becomes invalid for IADs.

If you need the Upgrading IADs is valid for IADs, you can use FTP service. Exercise caution when using FTP because it may bring information security risks.

  • Ensure that the FTPS or FTP service of the eSight is enabled.

You are suggested to use the FTPS service. The FTP service is risky.

  • During the upgrade, do not power on, power off, or restart the IAD.
  • Upgrade the IAD when few or no users are online.

Preparations

NOTE:

Manual backup is not required because the eSight automatically backs up the IAD configuration data.

  1. Obtain the IAD version software package.
  2. Disable the scheduled data backup function on the eSight to ensure that the upgrade is not affected by any data backup.

    1. Choose Resource > Collaboration > Collaboration Management > Network Element Device Management from the main menu.
    2. In the navigation tree, choose Network Element Device Management > Unified Communications > Business Configuration > Backup Configuration.
    3. In the IAD Scheduled Backup area, deselect the Enable scheduled backup check box.
    4. Click OK.

  3. Query the Digital Signal Processor (DSP) channel status.

Upgrade the IAD when the DSP channel is idle.

    1. Choose Monitor > Topology > Topology Management from the main menu.
    2. In the topology, select the IAD, right-click and choose NE Description from the displayed menu.
    3. Choose DSP Channel Status from the navigation tree on the left.

Troubleshooting

Table 13-50 describes the solutions to IAD upgrade exceptions.

Table 13-50 Solutions to IAD upgrade exceptions

Exception

Solution

Upgrading the software fails.

  1. Choose Resource > Collaboration > Collaboration Management > Network Element Device Management from the main menu. In the navigation tree, choose Network Element Device Management > Unified Communications > Resource Management > Unified Communications Device. Check the connection status of the device in the management object list.

If the device is offline, make sure the device is online and then upgrade the device.

  2. If the device is still offline, maybe the network is abnormal. Run the ping command on the eSight server which associates with the media gateway when the device connects to the eSight to check the connection between the device and the eSight. If the connection is abnormal, connect the device to the eSight correctly.

The software version is different from the target version after the upgrade.

Ensure that the correct target version is configured and the correct version file has been uploaded. Then perform the upgrade again.

Applications are damaged because of unexpected power-off or other events.

Reload the version or perform the version rollback. For details, see Solution to Upgrade Failure in the IAD Upgrade Guide.
