Handling Alarm Records

Handling Alarm Records

After NE and NMS alarms are reported to the eSight, you need quickly and successfully handle the alarms by following the steps of handling alarm records.

  • You have the operation rights for Browse Current Alarms.
  • You have the operation rights for Alarm Settings.
  • You have the operation rights for Alarm Settings so that you can synchronize alarms of a specified NE.
  • You have root permissions or the bound role is Administrators so that you can synchronize alarms on the entire network.

Conforming to 3GPP regulations, the eSight provides two alarm operations, acknowledge and clear, as described in Table 1.

Table 5-7 Important alarm operations

Identify the user who tracks and handles an alarm to avoid rework.

The following two alarm acknowledgment methods are provided:
  • Manual acknowledgment

Acknowledging an alarm means that the alarm will be or has been handled. After an alarm is acknowledged, its acknowledgment status changes from unacknowledged to acknowledged.

If you want another engineer to handle the alarm, you can unacknowledge the alarm. After the alarm is unacknowledged, its acknowledgment status changes from acknowledged to unacknowledged.

  • Automatic acknowledgment

To efficiently handle the alarms reported to the eSight, users can enable automatic acknowledgment by severity for the eSight to automatically acknowledge cleared alarms and then move the alarms to the list of historical alarms. Users do not need to handle these alarms manually.

Identify whether the fault that causes an alarm is rectified.

Alarms can be cleared manually or automatically.

  1. View the alarm details. Obtain key alarm information, including alarm names, handling suggestions, and location information, to facilitate fault diagnosis and troubleshooting for network maintenance personnel.

    1. Choose Fault > Current Alarms from the main menu.
    2. In the alarm list of the Current Alarms window, click the name of a desired alarm.

  2. Acknowledge the alarm manually. In the alarm list of the Current Alarms window, select one or more alarms and click Acknowledge.

To inform other users that an alarm is under someone's charge and avoid rework, acknowledge the alarm before handling it.

After the alarm is acknowledged, the Acknowledged By column displays the user who acknowledges the alarm.

  3. Manually clear an alarm after the fault that causes the alarm is rectified. In the alarm list of the Current Alarms window, select one or more alarms and click Clear.

If the fault that causes an alarm has been rectified but the alarm is not cleared automatically, manually clear the alarm. The alarm is then moved to the Historical Alarms window if it has been acknowledged or retained in the Current Alarms window with the background changed from white to green if it has not been acknowledged.

  4. Record alarm handling experience.

After handling an alarm, record the handling experience in the knowledge base. If the same type of alarm occurs again, personnel can handle it efficiently.

The eSight provides multiple navigation paths for recording alarm handling experience.
    • Navigation path in the current-alarm list: On the Current Alarms page, click for a target alarm. In the Handling Experience area, click .
    • Navigation path for acknowledged and cleared alarms: Choose Monitor > Monitor Management > Historical Alarms from the main menu. Click for a target alarm. In the Handling Experience area, click .
    • Choose Fault > Alarm Settings from the main menu. Choose Handling Experience from the navigation tree to view and modify alarm handling experience.

  5. Synchronize NE alarms manually. Choose Fault > Alarm Synchronism from the main menu.

If the eSight cannot receive alarms from an NE because of disconnection, manually synchronize alarms from the NE.

If synchronized NEs are deleted, the Alarm Synchronism page does not show the synchronization information about the deleted NEs after you refresh the page.
