Monitoring Performance

Monitoring Performance

Network maintenance personnel check and monitor the runtime status of the network or services in a period to understand the performance trend of the network. In this manner, the network maintenance personnel can optimize the network performance to ensure the proper running of the network.

Creating a Performance Collection Task

You can create performance collection tasks based on basic network or service indicators to check and monitor the running status and trend of the network and services in a past period of time. In this way, you can optimize the performance of the network and services and ensure that they run properly.

Procedure

  1. Optional: Set a monitoring template.

    1. Choose Performance > Monitoring Template from the main menu.
      NOTE:

Monitoring templates can be configured for devices or PONs. The counters that can be selected are as follows:

      • For devices: average CPU usage of devices, average memory usage of devices, response time, daily inaccessibility rate, current power consumption, port fault rate, and health.
      • For PONs: GPON port, optical module of the Ethernet port, ONU, MxU, board, interface, and ONT Ethernet port.
    2. Select a resource type from the navigation tree on the left, click Create, and configure the profile on the page that is displayed.
      NOTE:

Multiple indicators are selected when a performance data collection task is created. You can add the indicators to a template so that you can add them at a time. This facilitates you in efficiently creating performance data collection tasks. The system provides preset templates and allows you to create new monitoring templates.

  2. Create a performance data collection task.

    1. Choose Performance > Monitoring Settings from the main menu.
    2. Choose a desired resource type from the navigation tree. In the right pane, click Create. Complete the task settings on the page that is displayed.
      NOTE:
      • By default, the eSight provides a performance data collection task to improve O&M efficiency. If the task does not meet performance data collection needs, you can create tasks based on site requirements.
      • After you finish creating a performance data collection task, it is advisable to view data on the Performance Data page after two data collection periods elapse. For example, if the data collection period of a task is 5 minutes, it is a good idea to view data on the Performance Data page after 10 minutes.

Viewing Performance Data

You can view performance data and graphic performance trend views of resources, which enables network O&M personnel to take timely measures to avoid latent faults.

Procedure

  1. Choose Performance > Performance Data from the main menu.
  2. Monitor network-wide resource performance. On the Overview tab, choose a navigation node. In the right pane, view performance data of each resource type to have an overview of network-wide resource performance.
  3. Monitor resource performance that concerns users. On the Overview tab, choose a navigation node.

    1. In the right pane, set filter criteria to filter out or search for a desired resource record.
    2. Select a resource record and click Realtime Detail or Historical Data to view its real-time or historical performance data.
    NOTE:

Some historical performance data may be dumped to a specified file directory, which will lead to improper display of eSight data.

Purpose

Add to Favorites

You can save frequently monitored resources to My Favorites by a mode, for example, by group, to efficiently monitor resource performance data that you manage. You can directly view the performance on the My Favorites tab.

Export Data

You can export real-time and historical performance data, which provides support for you to offer a performance analysis report, comprehensively analyze resource performance trends, and summarize network optimization solutions.

Follow-up Procedure

By default, the eSight home page provides performance monitoring portlets. You can save a historical performance view that concerns you as a home page portlet, which facilitates you in monitoring historical performance on the home page.

Click at the upper right corner of the historical performance view. In the Save As Home Page Portlet dialog box, set the view name and description, and click OK. The historical performance data view of the record will be displayed in the Customize Homepage dialog box of the Home page.
