Health Memory Management Policy

Health Memory Management Policy

eSight allows you to modify health memory based on system configurations to meet different scenario requirements.

Context

  • If the number of objects to be measured on a storage device is small and the default health memory configurations are sufficient for assessing the workloads, exceptions, and alarm statistics of the storage device, you do not need to modify the health memory.
  • If the number of objects to be measured on a storage device is large and the health memory is insufficient, assess device health based on indicators, such as the workloads and alarms of the storage device. If the indicators are sufficient for health assessment, you do not need to modify the health memory.
  • If the number of objects to be measured on a storage device is large and precise device health assessment is required (assessed based on the workloads, exceptions, and alarms of the storage device), you can modify the default health memory configurations as follows:

Procedure

  1. Obtain measurement indicators based on objects to be measured.

The following table lists default measurement objects and their measurement indicator quantity.

    Measurement Object

    Measurement Indicator Quantity

    LUN

    3

    Storage pool

    3

    Controller

    1

    Port

    1

    Disk

    1

If a storage device has three LUNs, two storage pools, and one controller, the measurement indicator quantity is calculated as follows: 3 x 3+ 2 x 3 + 1 x 1 = 16

  2. Increase the health memory based on site requirements.

The default health memory is 512 MB, and the maximum measurement indicator quantity supported by the memory is 4161.

If the measurement indicator quantity is greater than 4161, increase the memory as follows:

    1. Calculate the required memory.

      Required memory(MB) = Measurement indicator quantity x (512/4161)

    2. If eSight has been started, stop it first.
    3. In the eSight installation root directory\AppBase\app\com.huawei.esight.it.hasmt\repository\as directory, edit the META-INF\oms\extension.xml configuration file in com.huawei.esight.it.hasmt.as-1.0-SNAPSHOT.jar to change the health memory size to the desired one and save the change. For example:

      NOTE:

Health memory configurations must match Java VM memory configurations. The maximum configured memory cannot be greater than 50% of the JVM memory. If the health memory size is too large, the system may run slowly or even break down.

    4. Start eSight.
