Device Software Management

This section describes how to manage and upgrade the device software on the eSight Infrastructure Manager.

Basic Concepts of Device Software Management

Device software management refers to that the eSight Infrastructure Manager manages and remotely upgrades the device software.

  • Table 21-62 describes the basic concepts related to device software management in the eSight Infrastructure Manager system.

    NOTE:

    Device at which the controller is SMU V500R001C20 version support device software management.

    Concept

    Description

    Software version

    To meet the growing requirement for network management, some new functions are added and some existing functions are enhanced during the lifecycle of the software. These technical changes are incorporated in the newly released software version.

    Version file

    A version file is the file used for software upgrade.

    Software upgrade

    Software upgrade is a process during which a new software version is installed to replace an earlier version. Through software upgrade, technical changes are incorporated into the current version. Software upgrade may involve the adjustment of certain system configuration data and site hardware. Software upgrade involved in the eSight Infrastructure Manager system refers to the device upgrade.

  • Table 21-63 lists the device versions and types involved in device software management in the eSight Infrastructure Manager system.

This section describes the processes of upgrading the device software and provides an overview of the upgrades for users.

Uploading Device Software Packages

This section describes how to upload the NE software packages from the eSight Infrastructure Manager client to the eSight Infrastructure Manager server.

Prerequisites

  • You have logged in to the eSight Infrastructure Manager client by web browser.
  • You are authorized to use View Infrastructure Right.
    The operation right consist of all operation rights for the following function menus:
    • Resource > Infrastructure > Monitor
    • Resource > Infrastructure > Alarm
    • Resource > Infrastructure > Business
    • Resource > Infrastructure > Analysis
    • Resource > Infrastructure > Configuration > Configuration Management > Access Control Management
    • Resource > Infrastructure > Configuration > Configuration Management > Device Software Management
    • Resource > Infrastructure > Configuration > Autocontrol > Autocontrol Strategy
    • Resource > Infrastructure > System
  • You have obtained the software packages required for device upgrade. For detailed operations, see the upgrade guides of the corresponding devices.

Procedure

  1. Choose Resource > Infrastructure > Configuration > Configuration Management > Device Software Management from the main menu. The Device Software Management window is displayed.
  2. In the left pane of the displayed Software Management tab page, click Device Software.
  3. On the Device Software page, click Upload.
  4. In the displayed Upload and Verify Software Package dialog box, click .
  5. Select the software packages you want to upload and click Upload.

    NOTE:

    The eSight Infrastructure Manager will check the uploaded software packages. If the upload fails, or the packages fail the check, analyze and resolve the problem as prompted. Then, upload the software packages again.

  6. Close the Upload and Verify Software Package dialog box.

    Information about the software packages that are successfully uploaded is displayed in the device software package list of the Device Software page.

Follow-up Procedure

You can perform the following operations on the uploaded software packages:

View the device software packages that have been uploaded to the server in the version software list of the Device Software page.

Delete a software package.
  1. Select the software packages you want to delete from the Device Software page.
  2. Click Delete.
  3. In the displayed dialog box, click Yes.
Refresh the software package list.

On the Device Software page, click Refresh. Information about the software packages is updated in the software package list.

Viewing Device Version Information

This section describes how to view information about software versions on the eSight Infrastructure Manager.

  • You have logged in to the eSight Infrastructure Manager client by web browser.
  • You are authorized to use View Infrastructure Right.
    The operation right consist of all operation rights for the following function menus:
    • Resource > Infrastructure > Monitor

Procedure

  1. Choose Resource > Infrastructure > Configuration > Configuration Management > Device Software Management from the main menu. The Device Software Management window is displayed.
  2. In the left pane of the displayed Software Management window, click Device Version.
  3. On the Device Version page, view the device version information.

    You can view the version information about all device or search version information about a specified device by device name. You can also filter the devices by version to view all devices for a specified version.

Synchronize controller versions

On the Device Version page, select one or more device and click Sync Version to synchronize the device version information.

After the synchronization, the eSight Infrastructure Manager then obtains the latest version information from NEs and refreshes the version information in the version information list.

Refresh the current page On the Device Version page, click Refresh.

The device versions on this page are refreshed.

Upgrade a device
  1. In the device version list, select the devices to be upgraded.
    NOTE:

    The air conditioner must have been powered off when you remotely upgrade the air conditioner by using the eSight Infrastructure Manager.

    One air conditioner cannot run more than two upgrade tasks at the same time. When the upgrade task is executed on the existing air conditioner, you cannot add another upgrade task.

  2. Click Device Upgrade.
  3. In the displayed Device Upgrade Wizard dialog box, enter the task name, select the target version and Executive Mode.
    NOTE:
    If a selected device is improperly connected to the eSight Infrastructure Manager, the device will not be displayed in the Selected Objects list and the device software cannot be upgraded.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Confirm the upgrade task information in the displayed window, and set the execution mode of the current task to Immediate or Time.

    When Time is selected, you need to manually set the execution time.

  6. Click Finish.
  7. In the displayed confirmation dialog box, click Yes.

    The system automatically switches to the Upgrade Task page.

Export device versions On the Device Version page, click Version Export. The version information of network-wide devices is exported to a PC.

Upgrading Device Software

This section describes how to remotely upgrade device software on the eSight Infrastructure Manager.

Prerequisites

  • You have logged in to the eSight Infrastructure Manager client by web browser.
  • You are authorized to use View Infrastructure Right.
    The operation right consist of all operation rights for the following function menus:
    • Resource > Infrastructure > Monitor
    • Resource > Infrastructure > Alarm
    • Resource > Infrastructure > Business
    • Resource > Infrastructure > Analysis
    • Resource > Infrastructure > Configuration > Configuration Management > Access Control Management
    • Resource > Infrastructure > Configuration > Configuration Management > Device Software Management
    • Resource > Infrastructure > Configuration > Autocontrol > Autocontrol Strategy
    • Resource > Infrastructure > System
  • You have the operation rights for Device Software Management.

  • You have uploaded required software packages to the eSight Infrastructure Manager server. For detailed operations, see Uploading Device Software Packages.
  • The connection between the eSight Infrastructure Manager server and NEs is normal.
  • The air conditioner has been powered off when you remotely upgrade the air conditioner.

Context

  • This section describes only universal operations performed on the eSight Infrastructure Manager. Procedures for upgrading the device are different. For details about the upgrade processes, see the upgrade guides of the corresponding devices.

  • For devices under the same ECC800, only one device can be upgraded at a time.

  • You can also perform Device Upgrade in the Device Version window to upgrade the device software. For detailed operations, see the post operations in Viewing Device Version Information.

Procedure

  1. Choose Resource > Infrastructure > Configuration > Configuration Management > Device Software Management from the main menu. The Device Software Management window is displayed.
  2. In the left pane of the displayed Software Management tab page, click Upgrade Task.
  3. On the Upgrade Task tab page, click Device Upgrade.
  4. In the displayed Device Upgrade Wizard dialog box, create a device upgrade task by performing the following steps shown in Figure 21-98.

    NOTE:
    • Executive Mode: UPSs support Download file but not active file. Air conditioners support Download and active file.
    • When upgrading air conditioners, you must upgrade them one by one. When the upgrade task is executed on the existing air conditioner, you cannot add another upgrade task.
    • Upgrading the MODBUS devices will result in interruptions in data collection.

  5. Click Next.
  6. On the displayed dialog box, view details about the upgrade task. After confirming the information, set the execution mode of the upgrade task according to Table 21-64. Then, click Finish.

    The eSight Infrastructure Manager executes the upgrade task immediately.

    Select Immediate.

    Scheduled execution

    The eSight Infrastructure Manager executes the upgrade task according to the time you have set.

    Select Time and set the execution time of the upgrade task.

  7. In the displayed confirm dialog box, click Yes.

    To upgrade device software, you need to download software and activate software. The progress and status of the upgrade task are displayed in the upgrade task list. When the progress reaches 100%, the upgrade task is complete.



  8. Check information about the target version by referring to Viewing Device Version Information.

    • If the version you have upgraded to is the same as the target version, the upgrade succeeds.
    • If the version you have upgraded to is different with the target version, the upgrade fails. If this occurs, contact Huawei technical support engineers.

View upgrade tasks

View the execution status of the created upgrade tasks in the upgrade task list of the Upgrade Task page.

Start upgrade tasks

In the upgrade task list of the Upgrade Task page, select one or more upgrade tasks whose status is Error, Timing, or Stop and click Start.

The selected upgrade tasks start running.

Delete upgrade tasks

Select one or multiple upgrade tasks and click Delete. Refresh the task list. the deleted upgrade tasks are no longer displayed in the task list.

NOTE:

The ongoing upgrade tasks cannot be deleted.
