U2900 Alarm and Performance Management Exceptions Due to the Firewall Between the eSight and the U2900

Question

When a firewall is deployed between the eSight and the U2900 gateway, the firewall will close timeout socket connections. This results in U2900 gateway alarm and performance management exceptions.

Answer

The firewall will close timeout socket connections periodically. This results in U2900 gateway alarm and performance management exceptions. The eSight sends heartbeat messages to the alarm and performance ports of the U2900 gateway periodically (every 5 minutes by default) to prevent the firewall from closing timeout socket connections.

The operations on the SUSE Linux operating system and Windows are similar. The SUSE Linux is taken as an example.

  1. Log in to the eSight server as the root user.
  2. Open the config.properties file.

    # cd eSight installation directory/AppBase/etc/uc

    # vi config.properties

    The following information is displayed:

    U29.businessPort.heartBeat.period=5

    In the preceding information, 5 indicates that the interval at which the eSight sends heartbeat messages to the U2900 gateway is 5 minutes. The value must be a non-negative integer and be smaller than the value indicating the interval at which the firewall closes timeout socket sessions.

    If there is no firewall between the eSight and the U2900 gateway, set this value to 0, indicating that the eSight does not send heartbeat messages to the alarm and performance ports of the U2900 gateway.

  3. Restart the eSight server.
