Inventory Management

Inventory management refers to effectively managing the physical asset information and key logical configuration information about the devices on the entire network in a centralized manner.

Querying Inventory Data

This section describes how to query inventory data to familiarize yourself with the physical configuration of network devices and the logical configuration of key resources.

Prerequisites

  • You have logged in to the eSight Infrastructure Manager client by web browser.
  • You are authorized to use View Infrastructure Right.
    The operation right consist of all operation rights for the following function menus:
    • Resource > Infrastructure > Monitor
    • Resource > Infrastructure > Alarm
    • Resource > Infrastructure > Business
    • Resource > Infrastructure > Analysis
    • Resource > Infrastructure > Configuration > Configuration Management > Access Control Management
    • Resource > Infrastructure > Configuration > Configuration Management > Device Software Management
    • Resource > Infrastructure > Configuration > Autocontrol > Autocontrol Strategy
    • Resource > Infrastructure > System
  • You are authorized to manage inventory data.

Context

The following table lists the devices involved in Inventory Management in the eSight Infrastructure Manager system and the versions and types of these devices.

NOTE:

The controller whose version is SMU V200R002C00 and the NE whose version is PowerCube1000 V300R002C01 or later support inventory management.

Procedure

  1. Choose Resource > Infrastructure > Business > Resource > Inventory Management from the main menu. The Inventory Management window is displayed.
  2. Query inventory data in either mode in Table 21-32. Table 21-33 describes the inventory information parameters.

    1. On the Inventory Management page, specify one or more of the following keywords: Device, Resource name, SN(Bar code), and Board type.
    2. Click Search.
    The inventory information that meets the search criteria is displayed on the Inventory Management page.

    • For a board, the value is the item number of the finished board or manufactured board.

    Issue No. Sub version of the hardware. The value is from the IT system of the supply chain. If no value is available from the IT system, the value is recorded as 00. This value is maintained by the product hardware manager.
    NOTE:

    The value can contain only digits.

    CLEI code International standard item number, which is equivalent to Huawei BBOM. The electronic CLEI code must be available wherever the product is sold. The paper CLEI code is needed only when the product is sold to areas where the CLEI code is requested.
    NOTE:

    The CLEI code consists of uppercase letters and digits.

    BOM More detailed item number, which is currently reserved only for the products of which Huawei item number cannot meet the customer's asset management requirement. For example, the WDM configuration item that is priced in a split manner cannot meet BT's asset management requirement. Therefore, the BOM is customized as BOM + Item + IssueNumber + Wave length, which is more detailed and meets BT's requirement. If the item of a product already meets the customer's asset management requirement, this field is left empty.
    NOTE:

    The BOM code consists of uppercase letters and digits.

Manually Synchronizing Inventory Data

This section describes how to manually synchronize inventory data of NEs to the eSight Infrastructure Manager database. The inventory data of multiple devices can be synchronized at the same time.

Prerequisites

  • You have logged in to the eSight Infrastructure Manager client by web browser.
  • You are authorized to use View Infrastructure Right.
    The operation right consist of all operation rights for the following function menus:
    • Resource > Infrastructure > Monitor
    • Resource > Infrastructure > Alarm
    • Resource > Infrastructure > Business
    • Resource > Infrastructure > Analysis
    • Resource > Infrastructure > Configuration > Configuration Management > Access Control Management
    • Resource > Infrastructure > Configuration > Configuration Management > Device Software Management
    • Resource > Infrastructure > Configuration > Autocontrol > Autocontrol Strategy
    • Resource > Infrastructure > System
  • The connection between the eSight Infrastructure Manager server and NEs is normal.

Procedure

  1. Choose Resource > Infrastructure > Business > Resource > Inventory Management from the main menu. The Inventory Management window is displayed.
  2. Click Obtain in the Inventory Management window.
  3. In the displayed Devices Info dialog box, select the NEs whose inventory data needs to be synchronized.
  4. Click OK.

    When the system starts to obtain the inventory data from NEs, Synchronizing is displayed above the inventory data list.

    Number of finished tasks/Total number of tasks above the list indicates the progress of obtaining inventory data from NEs.

    After the synchronization is complete, the obtained inventory data is displayed in the inventory data list. You can click Synchronization Details to view detailed information.

    NOTE:
    • You can obtain the electronic labels of both NEs from the inventory data list.
    • You can click Cancel to stop the synchronization of NE inventory information.

In the Inventory Management window, click Synchronization Details above the inventory data list. In the displayed synchronization details dialog box, view the values of Device Name and Status. The synchronization has three status: successful, failed, and cancelled.

Search inventory data

  1. In the Inventory Management window, set one or more search criteria, including Device, Resource name, SN(Bar code), and Board type.
  2. Click Search. The inventory data list is refreshed.

Export inventory data

In the Inventory Management window, click Export in the upper left corner.
  • Export Selected: export selected records in the inventory data list.
  • Export All: export all records in the inventory data list.

Manage LocalNMS information

In the Inventory Management window, click LocalNMS Information. Then, manage LocalNMS information in the displayed dialog box.

Managing Asset Information about the eSight Infrastructure Manager System

This section describes how to manage asset information about the eSight Infrastructure Manager system, including viewing, adding, modifying, and deleting hardware and software asset information.

Prerequisites

  • You have logged in to the eSight Infrastructure Manager client by web browser.
  • You are authorized to use View Infrastructure Right.
    The operation right consist of all operation rights for the following function menus:

  2. In the Inventory Management window, click LocalNMS Information.
  3. In the displayed LocalNMS Information dialog box, manage asset information about the eSight Infrastructure Manager system by referring to Table 21-34.

    Deleting asset information about the eSight Infrastructure Manager system

    1. In the LocalNMS Information dialog box, select the asset information records you want to delete.
    2. Click Delete.
    3. In the displayed dialog box, click OK.

Exporting the Inventory Information of the IB System Interconnection File

The eSight Infrastructure Manager allows users to generate and export the inventory XML file obtained from Huawei IB system for managing inventory data of Huawei devices.

Prerequisites

  • You have logged in to the eSight Infrastructure Manager client by web browser.
  • You are authorized to use View Infrastructure Right.
    The operation right consist of all operation rights for the following function menus:
    • Resource > Infrastructure > Monitor
    • Resource > Infrastructure > Alarm
    • Resource > Infrastructure > Business
    • Resource > Infrastructure > Analysis

  • You have performed the Obtain operation to obtain the electronic label of the device.

Procedure

  1. Choose Resource > Infrastructure > Business > Resource > Inventory Management from the main menu. The Inventory Management window is displayed.
  2. In the Inventory Management window, click Generate IBMS XML File.
  3. In the displayed Generate IBMS XML File dialog box, select the device or eSight Infrastructure Manager whose data you want to generate and click Generate.
  4. After the XML file is generated, click Export.
  5. In the displayed Download dialog box, click Save to save data to the local PC.

    For details about devices whose IB system interconnection file can be exported, see Table 21-35.

    NOTE:

    The IB system interconnection file can be exported for the controller whose version is SMU V200R002C00 and the NE whose version is PowerCube1000 V300R002C01 or later.
