Creating Subnets

Divide a large network to several small networks based on a specific principle such as by region or device type to simplify network management. On the eSight, the small networks are called subnets. The eSight allows you to plan and create subnets before adding devices. Then you can add and manage devices by subnets.

The eSight divides subnets by device type or application type. It is recommended that you manage subnets of each type separately.

Creating a Default Subnet

Divide a large network to several small networks based on a specific principle such as by region or device type to simplify network management. On the eSight, the small networks are called subnets. The eSight allows you to plan and create subnets before adding devices. Then you can add and manage devices by subnets.

Prerequisites

You have the resource operation rights.

Context
  • You can create lower-level subnets in a subnet.
  • You can move devices to a newly created subnet.
  • It is recommended that a subnet consist of a maximum of 10 layers to prevent performance problems.
  • It is recommended that a subnet contain a maximum of 500 devices.
Procedure
  1. Choose Resource > Common from the main menu.
  2. Choose Add Resource > Add Subnet from the navigation tree on the left.
  3. Set Subnet name and Description, choose Parent object, on the Default Subnet page.
  4. Click OK.

    NOTE:

    If the subnet is created successfully, it is displayed in the Subnet list.

Follow-up Procedure

After subnets are created, the Choose Resource > Common from the main menu. In the navigation tree on the left, select Resource Group > Subnet. allows you to perform the operations listed in the following table on the Subnet page.

Procedure

View subnet information

On the eSight, you can view subnet information.

  1. In the Subnet page, set search criteria and click Search.
  2. Click the name of the subnet. The eSight displays all information about the subnet.

Modify subnet information

On the eSight, you can modify the attributes of a subnet, such as the subnet name.

  1. In the managed object list on the right of the Subnet page, click in the Operation column where the target subnet is located.
  2. On the page for modifying subnet information, modify the configuration parameters of the subnet.
  3. Then click OK.

Delete a subnet

You can delete the subnets that will not be managed by the eSight.

  1. In the managed object list on the right of the Subnet page, delete subnets.

    To delete a subnet, click in the Operation column where the subnet is located.

    NOTE:

    If there are devices or subnets under a subnet, you cannot delete the subnet.

  2. In the Confirm dialog box, click Yes.

Creating a CC Subnet

The eSight manages eSpace CC devices using CC subnets.

Prerequisites

You have the resource operation rights.

Context
  • You can create lower-level subnets in a subnet.
  • To ensure management performance, do not create subnets of more than 10 levels and control the number of devices in a subnet within 500.
Procedure
  1. Choose Resource > Common from the main menu.
  2. Choose Add Resource > Add Subnet from the navigation tree on the left.
  3. Click CC Subnet.
  4. Set the parameters based on Table 13-34.

    Name of the CC Subnet to be created.

    Name of the CC access agent name that is added singly.

    IP address

    IP address of the UOA server to which the subnet is connected.

    Set this parameter to the same as the value of BindOMCLocalIP in the UOA installation directory/cfg/uoa_common.ini file. To view the file, log in to the SNE server as the uoa user.

    Port

    Port for the UOA server to receive requests from the eSight.

    Set this parameter to the same as the value of OMCSnmpListenPort in the UOA installation directory/cfg/uoa_common.ini file. To view the file, log in to the SNE server as the uoa user.

    The default value is 6600.

    Security name

    User security name

    Set this parameter to the same as the value of SecurityUser in the UOA installation directory/cfg/uoa_snmpagent.ini file. To view the file, log in to the UOA server as the uoa user.

    Context name

    Name of the subset for the managed objects.

    Set this parameter to the same as the value of ContextName in the UOA installation directory/cfg/uoa_snmpagent.ini file. To view the file, log in to the UOA server as the uoa user.

    Authentication protocol

    Algorithm that the UOA server uses to authenticate eSight.

    Set this parameter to the same as the value of AuthEncrypt in the UOA installation directory/cfg/uoa_snmpagent.ini file on the UOA server. To view the file, log in to the UOA server as the uoa user.

    The default value is HMAC_SHA.

    Authentication key

    Password that the UOA uses to authenticate the eSight.

    The value is written to the UOA installation directory/cfg/uoa_snmpagent.ini file in the format of encrypted text during installation. To change the value, perform the following steps:

    1. Log in to the UOA server as the uoa user.
    2. Run the following commands:

      cd ${UOA_RUN_ROOT}/tools

      uoa_encrypt_tool -e the new password

    3. Write the encrypted password to AuthPassword in the uoa_snmpagent.ini file. Save the file and exit.

    Privacy protocol

    Algorithm used for data encryption during communication between the eSight and the UOA server.

    Set this parameter to the same as the value of PrivacyEncrypt in the UOA installation directory/cfg/uoa_snmpagent.ini file on the UOA server. To view the file, log in to the UOA server as the uoa user.

    The default value is AES128.

    Privacy key

    Password used for parsing encrypted data during communication between the eSight and the UOA server.

    The value is written to the UOA installation directory/cfg/uoa_snmpagent.ini file in the format of encrypted text during installation. This password is changed in the same way as the password specified in Authentication key. After the password is changed, write the encrypted password to PrivPassword in the uoa_snmpagent.ini file.

    If the value of parameter Privacy protocol is set as None, this parameter is no need to set.

    Time-out period (s):

    Timeout period, within which the subnet must respond to the message sent by the eSight. If the subnet does not respond within the timeout period, the eSight considers that the subnet does not exist.

    The default value is 30.

    NOTE:
    • After change the configuration file of the UOA, restart the UOA to make the modification take effect.
    • If you need to configure SNMP protocol parameters for a device, click Save Protocol Template after setting the SNMP protocol parameters. The next time you configure SNMP protocol parameters, click Select Protocol Template and apply a saved template.

  5. Click OK.

    NOTE:

    Click Apply. The subnet is created. You can repeat the preceding operations to create more subnets.

    • If the subnet is created successfully, the Add Subnet Success dialog box is displayed. Click OK in the dialog box.
    • If the subnet fails to be created, the system displays the failure cause. Click OK in the dialog box and set parameters again.

Result
  1. Choose Resource > Common from the main menu. In the navigation tree on the left, select Resource Group > Subnet.
  2. If you can find the new CC subnet in the management object list, the CC subnet is created successfully.

Creating an UC Subnet

After UC subnets are created, you do not need to manually add EC3.0 ECS service NEs, EC6.0 UC/VC NEs (CCF, USM, vMRFP, ECS, TMS, Mediax, and CloudMCU), and SE1000 to the subnets. eSight automatically adds the EC3.0 ECS service NEs, EC6.0 UC/VC NEs, and SE1000 to UC subnets.

Prerequisites
  • Prerequisite for adding EC3.0 ECS service NEs:
    • The ECS service NEs have registered to the UOA, and the status is normally.

      For details, see How to Check Whether ECS Service NEs Are Connected to the UOA in EC solution eSpace EC Product Documentation.

    • EC solution protocol parameters have been set. For details, see Setting Device Protocol Parameters for the EC3.0 ECS.
  • Prerequisite for adding EC6.0 UC/VC NEs:
    • The EC6.0 UC/VC NEs have registered to the CGP, and the status is normally. For details, see CGP Product Documentation.
      NOTE:

      When public and private networks coexist, ensure that there are reachable routes between the CGP IP address and the primary eSight IP address (the IP address selected for the eSight server during eSight installation).

    If you can find the new UC subnet in the management object list, the UC subnet is created successfully.

  2. Choose Resource > Collaboration > Collaboration Management > Network Element Device Management from the main menu.

    If you can find the new UC NEs in the management object list, and choose Telepresence Conference > Videoconferencing Device. If you can find the new VC NEs in the management object list, the NEs are added successfully.
