System Function Overview

The eSight client provides channels for setting basic functions of the eSight system, including system setting and system management.

You can choose System from the main menu and configure system functions based on the site requirements. Table 24-1 describes system functions that can be configured.

System Settings

Administrative Domains

A system administrator or a user with the system administrator rights can create administrative domains. After management rights of a domain are granted to a domain administrator, the domain administrator can manage this domain on eSight. Through rights- and domain-based management, data in different domains can be isolated.

Southbound Devices

Base Station Information Management: Users can import longitude and latitude data of base stations to implement monitoring on device locations based on the base station information.

Web Telnet Settings: To audit users' modification on devices, enable the audit log function. Warning: Audit logs may contain sensitive information.

Network Equipment Polling Setting: Parameters can be set for eSight to perform polling on resource inventory and user access data.

Network Management Parameter Setting: General configurations can be performed on network devices managed by eSight, including device parameter setting, link discovery parameter setting, and SFTP performance parameter setting.

Northbound Integration

Local System Settings: Configure northbound interface parameters for interconnection with a third-party system. When the system IP address is set to 127.0.0.*, the third-party system can access eSight only through the server where eSight is deployed. When setting the port for running the SNMP or FTP service, do not configure a port that has been used.

Third-party System Settings: eSight can connect to a third-party system using a connection protocol, such as SNMP, HTTPS, SFTP, or FTP through the northbound interface, so that the third-party system can manage devices connected to the lower-layer NMS.

Alarm Filter Settings: When reporting alarms to a third-party system, you can determine to filter out or report the alarms that meet the specified filter criteria. When the connection protocol of a specified third-party system is HTTPS, alarms are reported to the third-party system according to the filter criteria.

OpenAPI Health Management: You can view the usage statistics and interface invoking details of all RESTful over HTTPS open interfaces in charts and tables within a specified period of time for a specified third-party system. You can also set interface health parameters.

Whitelist Settings: IP addresses trusted by clients can be added to the SSO server. Then a user can access all mutually trusted systems after logging in only once.

System Interconnection

Authentication Server Configuration:

eSight supports local and remote authentication.

  • Local authentication: Users must use accounts created on eSight to log in to eSight. By default, eSight uses the local authentication mode.
  • Remote authentication: Users can use accounts existing on the authentication server to log in to eSight. eSight complies with Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) and Remote Authentication Dial In User Service (RADIUS).

GIS Settings: Users can set parameters for online and offline maps supported by eSight, and set the GIS map as the subnet background in the physical topology or service topology.

Set Notified Server: To ensure that eSight can successfully send alarm/event notifications to users through SMS messages or emails or WeChat messages, you need to set interconnection parameters for the email server, SMS server, SMS modem, HTTPS SMS gateway, cloud MAS platform, or WeChat server on eSight based on site situation.

Set Notified User: When you set the remote notification, you need to set the users and user groups to be notified.

SSO Client Settings: eSight can function as the client of the CAS SSO Server. Users can import certificates on the eSight client and configure related URLs, implementing SSO.

Common Parameters

Normally, sufficient database space has been allocated based on the network scale to ensure proper eSight service running. Even so, it is still possible that network monitoring will be compromised as new data cannot be written to the database when the data in it accumulates with time. eSight data overflow dump provides a mechanism to cope with the problem. It is advisable to plan and set this function based on the network scale and hardware configuration of the eSight server after eSight is installed.

System Management

User Management

User management includes the following functions: user management, role management, account policy management, password policy setting, login IP address control, login time control, online user viewing, and current login user setting.

NOTE:

By default, eSight provides the admin user. The admin user has all operation and management permissions. Other users are directly or indirectly created and maintained by the admin user.

Log Management

eSight provides three types of logs for recording different information. The logs include operation logs, system logs, and security logs.

License Management

A license file controls resources and functions of eSight. Check the license as promoted or routinely to ensure proper running of eSight.
