Adding OLTs and ONUs

Adding OLTs and ONUs

This topic describes how to add OLTs and ONUs to the eSight to realize unified management.

Context

  • eSight considers both ONU and ONT as ONU.
  • An OLT device maintains information about ONUs connected to it. After an OLT is added to eSight, OLT basic information, links between the OLT and ONUs, and ONUs connected to the OLT be automatically added to eSight.
  • Some ONU devices support SNMP parameters and require refined device management, such as device panel and interface information. After you add an OLT to eSight, you need to manually add these ONU devices to meet O requirements. The methods for adding ONUs are the same as those for Adding OLTs.

Adding OLTs

You can use either of the following methods to add OLTs to eSight like common devices.

Related Operations

Synchronize OLT and ONU information. After you add OLTs and ONUs to eSight, the following information may change during the network maintenance process.

  • Basic OLT information
  • Connections between OLTs and ONUs
  • Basic ONU information and the number of ONUs connected to each OLT

The periodical synchronization function provided by eSight can only synchronize basic OLT information. You are advised to manually synchronize OLT and ONU information to eSight.

  1. Choose Resource > PON from the main menu.
  2. Choose PON Resource > Device from the navigation tree on the left.
  3. Select the OLT device, and click Synchronize.

Automatically Discovering NEs

This topic describes how to configure eSight to automatically discover OLTs and MxUs using IP addresses.

Prerequisites
  • eSight and NEs can ping each other successfully.
  • You have the operation rights for Access Resource.
  • SNMP parameters have been correctly set on NEs.
  • SNMP parameters have been correctly set on eSight, and must be the same as those on NEs.
Context

The eSight provides three automatic device discovery modes by network segment, by ARP, and by router. You can also add network segments or IP addresses of the devices that do not need to be discovered to an exclusion list. During automatic device discovery, the eSight automatically skips the network segments or IP addresses in the exclusion list.

Automatic discovery tasks are classified into one-off tasks and scheduled tasks. One-off tasks are executed immediately while you can determine whether to execute scheduled tasks immediately.

Procedure
  1. Choose Resource > Add Resource > Automatic Task Management from the main menu.
  2. On the Exclusion List tab page, check the excluded network segments or IP addresses.

Add the network segments or IP addresses of the devices that do not need to be discovered to the exclusion list. The task will automatically skip the network segments or IP addresses.

  3. Choose Resource > Add Resource > Auto Discovery from the main menu.
  4. On the Auto Discovery tab, click Change Discovery Mode in the upper right corner to select a desired mode.
  5. Set the parameters of an automatic discovery task and click Auto Discovery.
  6. Confirm the discovery results.

    • You can immediately view the results for the task with type as Once-off and the scheduled task that is immediately executed.
    • For the scheduled task that is not immediately executed, Choose Add Resource > Automatic Task Management from the navigation tree on the left and view the discovery results in Discovered Device List.

Importing NEs in Batches

This section describes how to import NEs in batches by using Excel files.

Prerequisites
  • eSight and NEs can ping each other successfully.
  • SNMP parameters have been correctly set on NEs.
  • SNMP parameters have been correctly set on eSight, and must be the same as those on NEs.
Procedure
  1. Choose Resource > Common from the main menu.
  2. Choose Add Resource > Import Resource from the navigation tree on the left.
  3. On the Import Resource tab, click Access Device > SNMP.
  4. Click next to Download Template to download the template to a local directory.
  5. Open the template, enter NE information, and save the file.

    NOTE:
    • Protocol parameters in the Excel files must be consistent with those configured on NEs.
    • You can use the offline import function to add unpowered NEs to eSight. After the NEs are powered on, eSight can normally manage the NEs.

  6. On the Import Resource page, click next to Upload Resource File and select a template file to be uploaded.
  7. Click to upload the template file.

NE information and NE check results are displayed on the right of the page. If Result is empty, NE check succeeds.

  8. Select an NE and click Create.

    • If the NE is created successfully, the Result column is The resource is created successfully.
    • If the NE cannot be created, the reason for the failure is displayed in the Result column. You can attempt to solve the problem and import NEs again based on the failure reason. If the fault persists, contact the technical support personnel.

Follow-up Procedure

After NEs are added to eSight successfully, you can view them by choosing Resource > PON > PON Resource > Device from the main menu.

Adding an OLT

This section describes how to add a single OLT to eSight. This method can be used to add a small number of NEs to eSight.

Prerequisites
  • eSight and NEs can ping each other successfully.
  • When adding NEs through SNMP, you need to obtain the SNMP protocol of the NEs.
Procedure
  1. Choose Resource > Common from the main menu.
  2. Choose Add Resource > Add Resource from the navigation tree on the left.
  3. On the Add Resource tab, click Access Device.
  4. Set related parameters.

    Security name

    User Name

    Authentication password

    Privacy protocol

    User encryption mode.

  5. Click OK.

    • If the NE is created successfully, the NE is displayed in the list.
    • If the NE cannot be created, the Error dialog box is displayed, indicating the reason for the failure. Click OK to set the parameters again.

Adding an ONU

This section describes how to add a single ONU to eSight. This method can be used to add a small number of NEs to eSight.

Prerequisites
  • eSight is running properly.
  • An OLT has been added to eSight.
  • A multi-service profile has been created.
Procedure
  1. Choose Resource > PON from the main menu.
  2. Choose PON Resource > ONU from the navigation tree on the left.
  3. Click .
  4. In Create ONU dialog box, set Home OLT, Home PON port, ONU ID, ONU Type, MultiService templates, SN, ONU Alias and ONU description.

    NOTE:

For one port of an OLT, SN and ONU ID cannot be the same as existing SN or ONU ID when creating ONU.

  5. Click OK. An ONU record is added to ONU list.
