Application Scenario

  • If agile devices are deployed in an area within an enterprise campus, iPCA detection can be created for the agile devices and layer-2 direct links between the devices, and the network topology can be used to monitor whether the unicast IP service has packet loss in this area in real time, which helps understand the quality of the entire network.
  • The branch networks within an enterprise campus are connected through lines leased from carriers. The branch egress devices function as the CEs that connect to carrier's network. The iPCA creates network-level detection between egress devices on the campus network to monitor the service quality on the carriers' network in real time.
  • Packet loss detection for the unicast IP service of the enterprise key services.

Feature Limitation and Dependency

  • To find the path of a service flow, the eSight must know the source and destination IP addresses of the service flow.
  • Currently, point-to-point detection of service path finding is supported on layer-3 IP networks but not on other networks such as layer-2 network and MPLS VPN.
  • In service path discovery, only the latest path can be discovered through IP TRACERT. The load balancing path or standby path cannot be discovered.
  • After an iPCA task is created, the task cannot be deleted or modified on the device. Otherwise, the eSight task will be abnormal.
    • In a version earlier than V300R007C00, to delete an iPCA task, delete the task in the eSight first, and then delete the TLP from the devices. Strictly follow this sequence. Otherwise, the iPCA tasks on the eSight will be abnormal.
    • In V300R007C00 or a later version, directly delete iPCA tasks from eSight. When an iPCA task is deleted from eSight, all related configuration of this task is automatically deleted. No operations are required on the device.
