Function Overview

Function Overview

This topic describes the usage and exchange process of configuration files.

  • Timely backup of configuration file: With service development, the configuration file of a device frequently changes. The configuration file needs to be backed up in a timely manner to ensure device security and reliability.
  • Quick restoration of configuration file: If a fault occurs on a device, the backup configuration file can be uploaded to the device to quickly restore the device's configuration data and services.
  • Automatic backup triggering and email notification: If the configuration file of a device changes, backup of the changed configuration file will be triggered automatically and eSight will send the backup result to the administrator through emails.
  • Quick query of configuration file changes: Administrators can compare two configuration files of a device or configuration files of two devices to view the change details on eSight.
  • Replacement of the faulty device: When a device is faulty, a simple configuration can be performed for the device to be quickly replaced on the topology page, making the device services quickly recovered.

Exchange Process

The following describes the interaction between eSight and devices in a scenario where configuration changes automatically trigger configuration file backup.

  1. Enable configuration change backup on eSight.
  2. When a device's configuration data changes, the device sends a trap to eSight to inform eSight of the change.
  3. eSight instructs the device to start configuration file backup through SNMP or Telnet.
  4. The device transfers the configuration file to eSight through SFTP.
