IP Address Planning

This section describes how to plan IP addresses in the networking planes during the installation and deployment of FusionStorage.

Table 3-3 shows the planning rules and number of IP addresses to be planned.
NOTE:

You need to plan the IP address of the service plane based on the site requirements.

Storage plane

Actual number of IP addresses = Number of compute nodes x 1 + Number of storage nodes x 1

  • Assign one storage network IP addresses to each compute node.
  • Assign one storage network IP address to each storage node.
NOTE:

If the FusionStorage system is planned to be expanded in the future, reserve storage plane IP addresses for the to-be-added nodes in advance.

Management plane

Actual number of IP addresses = Number of compute nodes x 1 + Number of storage nodes x 1 + Number of FSM nodes x 1 + 1 (the floating IP address of FSM nodes)

  • Assign one management network IP address to each compute node for cluster management.
  • Assign one management network IP address to each storage node for cluster management.
  • Assign one management network IP address to each FSM node so that FSM nodes can communicate with FSAs of compute nodes and storage nodes.
  • Assign one floating IP address to FSM nodes.

BMC network

Actual number of IP addresses = Number of compute nodes x 1 + Number of storage nodes x 1 + 1 (the management IP address of the storage switch) + 1 (the management IP address of the BMC/management switch)

  • Assign one management network IP address to the Mgmt port of each compute node.
  • Assign one management network IP address to the Mgmt port of each storage node.
  • Assign one management network IP address to each storage switch so that the switch can be remotely maintained.
    NOTE:

    Two switches are stacked to act as one switch for storage. Therefore, only one IP address needs to be assigned, floating between the two switches' ETH management ports.

  • Assign one management network IP address to each BMC/management switch so that the switch can be maintained remotely.
