Installing an OS on FSM

Installing an OS on FSM

Scenarios

Install FusionStorage Manager (FSM) on a computing node of Microsoft Hyper-V.

FSM supports the active/standby mode and single-node deployment.

Prerequisites

Conditions

The Hyper-V has been enabled on the PC.

Data

No data is required for performing this operation.

Software

You have obtained the following software packages:

FusionStorage Block V100R006C20SPC200.iso

Procedure

    Create an FSM VM.

    1. Log in to a computing node where an FSM VM is to be created, search for and open Hyper-V Manager, right-click a computing node for creation, choose New > Virtual Machine..., and create an FSM VM.

      Table 7-5  FSM VM specifications
      Item Specifications

      FSM node name

      • The FSM node name can contain only digits, letters, and hyphens (-). It must start with a letter and cannot exceed 32 characters.
      • The node name must be unique and different from the name of the cluster.

      Example: FSM01

Operating system (OS) SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP3 (64-bit)
CPU Set the number of CPUs based on the number of hosts:
      • If 3 to 64 hosts are deployed, 4 vCPUs are required.
      • If 65 to 4096 hosts are deployed, 16 vCPUs are required.
Memory (GB) Set the memory size based on the number of hosts:
      • If 3 to 64 hosts are deployed, set the memory capacity to 16 GB.
      • If 65 to 4096 hosts are deployed, set the memory capacity to 32 GB.
NIC (Network adapter) 1 (Select the management network plane for this NIC.)
Disk (GB) Set the disk capacity based on the number of hosts:
      • If 3 to 64 hosts are deployed, set the disk capacity to 100 GB.
      • If 65 to 4096 hosts are deployed, set the disk capacity to 300 GB. Independent physical disks are recommended.
      NOTE:
When FSM nodes are deployed on VMs, the VMs can use only local disks.
If other options are required, apply the default specifications.

The VM must be stopped after it is created, because other VM parameters need configuration.

    2. If VMs are deployed in active/standby mode, create an FSM VM for the other computing node.

    Configure an FSM VM.

    1. Right-click the FSM VM and choose Settings... to set FSM VM parameters.

Configure the CPU according to the FSM VM specifications in Processor as shown in Figure 7-2.

      Figure 7-2  CPU quota

    2. Set the FSM VM hardware parameters and options. For details, see 3.

    Install an OS.

    1. Right-click the FSM VM and choose Connet.....
    2. In the console window, click Media > DVD Drive > Insert Disk.... and mount the FusionStorage Block V100R006C20SPC200.iso file to a local directory.
    3. Press to restart the VM.
    4. Select Test this media & install EulerOS V2.0SP2 and press Enter to start OS installation if a screen shown in Figure 7-3 is displayed.
    5. When the page shown in Figure 7-3 is displayed again, choose Media > DVD Drive > Eject to disconnect the mounted image and click the icon to restart the VM.

      NOTE:
      • The installation process takes about 20 minutes.
      • You can hold Ctrl and press Alt in the installation process to switch to the console window.
      Figure 7-3  Installation selection
The host OS automatically restart after the OS is installed on the VM.

    6. After the OS is installed, log in to the OS as user root.

The default password of user root is IaaS@OS-CLOUD8!.

    7. Run the following commands to configure a temporary IP address and default route for the FSM node:

This temporary IP address will be used to connect to the FSM node when you use a tool to configure the FSM network information.

      • ifconfig Management plane NIC Temporary IPv4 address/Subnet mask up, For example, ifconfig eth0 192.168.40.15/24 up.
      • route add default gw Default gateway, For example, route add default gw 192.168.40.1.

    8. Install the second VM as the FSM VM if two FSM VMs are deployed in active/standby mode. For details, see 5 to 9.

    (Optional) Install the LFTP software.

Perform this step if the FSM node will use a third-party backup server.

    1. Copy lftp-xxx.rpm in the lftp folder of the FusionStorage Block V100R006C20SPC200_tool.zip software package to the home directory on the first server with the FSM node deployed.
    2. Use PuTTY to log in to the first server with the FSM node installed.

Ensure that the management IP address and username root are used to establish the connection.

If the public and private keys are used to authenticate the login, perform the operations based on Using PuTTY to Log In to a Node in Key Pair Authentication Mode.

    3. Run the following command to install the LFTP software:

      rpm -ivh lftp-4.3.7-37.1.x86_64.rpm

    4. If FSM nodes are deployed working in active/standby mode, repeat 13 to 15 to install the LFTP software on the second server with the FSM node deployed.
