Configuring the 56Gb/100Gb IB Network

Scenarios

Perform operations in this section to enable the InfiniBand network interface card (NIC). The operations include enabling OpenSM and configuring InfiniBand network information.

Prerequisites

Conditions

  • The FSA nodes have been installed.
  • The control cluster has not been created.
  • The InfiniBand NIC driver has been installed.

Data

You have obtained the management IP addresses of the FSA nodes.

Procedure

    Enable OpenSM.

    1. Use PuTTY to log in to the FSM node.

      Ensure that username dsware and the management plane floating IP address are used to establish the connection. The default password of user dsware is IaaS@OS-CLOUD9!.

      If the public and private keys are used to authenticate the login, perform the operations based on Using PuTTY to Log In to a Node in Key Pair Authentication Mode.

    2. Run the following command to switch to the specified directory:

      cd /opt/dsware/client/bin

    3. Run the following command to deploy and start the OpenSM process:

      NOTE:

      Since the system has been hardened, you need to enter the username and password for login authentication after running the dswareTool command of FusionStorage Block. The default username is cmdadmin, and its default password is IaaS@PORTAL-CLOUD9!.

      The system supports authentication using environment variables so that you do not need to repeatedly enter the username and password for authentication each time you run the dswareTool command. For details, see Authentication Using Environment Variables.

      sh dswareTool.sh --op startupOpenSM -ip Management IP address of the storage node -num Number of processes -ports InfiniBand network port

      In this command, num specifies the number of processes to be started, and ports specifies the ports on which the process runs. The number of processes is the same as the number of ports. Configure the OpenSM process as follows:

      • Deploy four OpenSM processes on three storage nodes (one node with two processes and the other two nodes with two processes) that are equipped with InfiniBand network ports.
      • If the system contains multiple subracks or cabinets and employs the rack-level security, deploy the OpenSM processes on different subracks or cabinets to improve reliability.

      For example, run the following commands to start four OpenSM processes:

      sh dswareTool.sh --op startupOpenSM -ip 192.168.40.100 -num 1 -ports ib0

      sh dswareTool.sh --op startupOpenSM -ip 192.168.40.101 -num 1 -ports ib1

      sh dswareTool.sh --op startupOpenSM -ip 192.168.40.102 -num 2 -ports ib0,ib1

    Configure the InfiniBand network.

    1. Run one of the following commands to bind network ports in batches:

      If the server is equipped with a single InfiniBand NIC, run the following command:

      sh dswareTool.sh --op batchCreatePortAggr -n storage-x -p ib0,ib1 -m 1 -ip ip1-ip2,ip3...

      If the server is equipped with dual InfiniBand NICs, run the following command:

      sh dswareTool.sh --op batchCreatePortAggr -n storage-x -p ib0,ib1,ib2,ib3 -m 1 -ip ip1-ip2,ip3...

      NOTE:
      • storage-x specifies the name of the bonded network port. The value must be in storage-Serial number format, for example, storage-1.
      • ip specifies the management IP address of the FSA node to be created. It can be one IP address or an IP address segment.
      • After the command is executed, take note of the taskId value in the command output.
      • If the command execution fails, you can run the sh dswareTool.sh --op deleteBond -n bondName -ip ip1-ip2,ip3... command to delete the failed bond port. Then use the command provided by the OS to create bond ports on the FSA node. For details, see the OS's official document.

    2. Run the following command to check whether the task is successfully performed:

      sh dswareTool.sh --op queryTaskInfo -id taskid

      If the obtained task status is partially succeeded, you can run the sh dswareTool.sh --op queryChildrenTaskInfo -id taskid command to query information about the failed subtasks.

    3. Run the following command to open the IP configuration file:

      vi /opt/dsware/client/conf/ip_config.xml

    4. Press i to enter editing mode.
    5. Modify configuration information. Table 4-23 lists the parameters to be modified. Retain the values of other parameters.

      nodeMgrIp

      Specifies the FSA node management IP address.

      name

      The value must be fsb_data0.

      bondName

      Specifies the name of the bonded network port. This value must be the same as the one set in 4.

      NOTE:
      If the node OS is Red Hat Linux 6.5 or earlier, or CentOS 6.5 or earlier, the VLAN name cannot be set to fsb_data0. Use the actual VLAN name of the storage plane, and the format is vlan+vlanId, for example, vlan3.

      vlanId

      Specifies the VLAN ID of the storage plane. If VLANs are not used, this parameter does not need to be configured.

      netAddr

      Specifies the storage IP addresses of the FSA nodes to be configured. The sequence and number of the storage IP addresses must be consistent with those set in nodeMgrIp.

      netMask

      Specifies the subnet mask of the storage plane.

      gateway

      Specifies the gateway of the storage plane. If this parameter is not planned, you do not need to set it.

    6. Press Esc and enter :wq to save the modification and exit the vi editor.
    7. Run the following command to configure the server IP addresses in batches:

      sh dswareTool.sh --op batchSetServerIp -f /opt/dsware/client/conf/ip_config.xml

      After the command is executed, take note of the taskId value in the command output.

    8. Run the following command to check whether the task is successfully performed:

      sh dswareTool.sh --op queryTaskInfo -id taskid

      If the obtained task status is partially succeeded, you can run the sh dswareTool.sh --op queryChildrenTaskInfo -id taskid command to query information about the failed subtasks.

    Set the InfiniBand NIC use policy.

    By default, FusionStorage Block identifies the bonded InfiniBand network port used by the computing nodes and storage nodes through the IP address of the storage network. If you need to specify the InfiniBand NICs used by FusionStorage Block, simply add the InfiniBand NICs to the bonded InfiniBand network port used by the FusionStorage Block storage network. You can also change the g_net_ip_ib_dev_switch value to make FusionStorage Block use all the InfiniBand NICs on the node.

    1. Use PuTTY to log in to the FSM node.

      Ensure that the floating IP address and username dsware are used to establish the connection. The default password of user dsware is IaaS@OS-CLOUD9!.

      If the public and private keys are used to authenticate the login, perform the operations based on Using PuTTY to Log In to a Node in Key Pair Authentication Mode.

    2. Run the following command and enter the password of user root to switch to user root:

      su - root

    3. Run the following command to open the SystemConfiguration.xml configuration file using the vi editor:

      vi /opt/dsware/manager/webapps/dsware/WEB-INF/SystemConfiguration.xml

    4. Press i to enter the editing mode:
    5. Change the g_net_ip_ib_dev_switch value to the specified InfiniBand NIC name.

      If the parameter value is set to open, FusionStorage Block identifies the bonded InfiniBand network port used by the computing nodes and storage nodes through the IP address of the storage network. If it is set to close, all the InfiniBand NICs on the node are used by FusionStorage Block by default.

    6. Press Esc and enter :wq.

      Save the modification and exit the vi editor.

    7. Run the following command to restart the Tomcat service:

      su - omm -c restart_tomcat

      During the restart, FusionStorage Block Self-Maintenance Platform cannot be logged in to, and you need to log in again after the restart is complete.

      If the following information is displayed, the restart is successful.
      Tomcat is restarted successfully.
