Changing the Network Congestion Control Algorithm

Scenarios

Change the network congestion control algorithm of the storage pool to avoid the sequential read performance deterioration of large data blocks in the storage pool when either of the following conditions are met:
  • All of the following conditions are met in the storage pool:
    • The storage network uses the Ethernet networking.
    • The switches used in the storage network do not support explicit congestion notification (ECN).
    • The Linux kernel version of the storage node OS is later than 3.10.0, for example, the Linux kernel version of CentOS 7, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12, or EulerOS 2.0 is later than 3.10.0.
  • Taishan nodes are deployed in the storage pool, and the storage network uses the 25GE networking.

Prerequisites

Conditions

You have obtained the management IP address of the active FSM node and the password of user dsware.

Procedure

    1. Use PuTTY to log in to the active FSM node.

      Ensure that the management IP address of the active FSM node and username dsware are used to establish the connection.

      If the public and private keys are used to authenticate the login, perform the operations based on Using PuTTY to Log In to a Node in Key Pair Authentication Mode.

    2. Run the following command to switch to the /opt/dsware/client/bin directory:

      cd /opt/dsware/client/bin

    3. Run the following command to change the network congestion control algorithm used by the storage pool to reno:

      NOTE:

      Since the system has been hardened, you need to enter the username and password for login authentication after running the dswareTool command of FusionStorage Block. The default username is cmdadmin, and its default password is IaaS@PORTAL-CLOUD9!.

      The system supports authentication using environment variables so that you do not need to repeatedly enter the username and password for authentication each time you run the dswareTool command. For details, see Authentication Using Environment Variables.

      sh dswareTool.sh --op poolParametersOperation -opType modify -parameter p_tcp_congestion_algorithm:reno -poolId Storage pool ID

      The configuration is successful if the number of faulty nodes displayed in the command output is 0.

      You can also run commands to view the in-use network congestion control algorithm of the storage pool or change it to the default algorithm.

      • To view the in-use network congestion control algorithm, run the sh dswareTool.sh --op queryPoolParameters -poolId Storage pool ID command.
      • To change the network congestion control algorithm to the default one, run the sh dswareTool.sh --op poolParametersOperation -opType modify -parameter p_tcp_congestion_algorithm:default_ca -poolId Storage pool ID command.
