Changing the Split Size for SSD Cards and NVMe SSD Devices

Changing the Split Size for SSD Cards and NVMe SSD Devices

Scenarios

When SSD cards or NVMe SSD devices are used as the main storage for FusionStorage Block, the system splits the SSD cards or NVMe SSD devices by 600 GB by default. If the number of units after split for each server exceeds 36, storage pools fail to create. In this case, manually specify a new split size for the SSD cards or NVMe SSD devices.

For the 10GE storage network, the advised number of units after split ranges from 12 to 24 for each server. For the InfiniBand storage network, the advised number of units after split ranges from 12 to 36 for each server.

Prerequisites

Conditions

You have obtained the management IP address of the active FSM node and the password of user dsware.

Procedure

    1. Use PuTTY to log in to the active FSM node.

Ensure that the management IP address of the active FSM node and username dsware are used to establish the connection.

If the public and private keys are used to authenticate the login, perform the operations based on Using PuTTY to Log In to a Node in Key Pair Authentication Mode.

    2. Run the following command to switch to the /opt/dsware/client/bin directory:

      cd /opt/dsware/client/bin

    3. Run the following command to specify a new split size for SSD cards or NVMe SSD devices:

      NOTE:

Since the system has been hardened, you need to enter the username and password for login authentication after running the dswareTool command of FusionStorage Block. The default username is cmdadmin, and its default password is IaaS@PORTAL-CLOUD9!.

The system supports authentication using environment variables so that you do not need to repeatedly enter the username and password for authentication each time you run the dswareTool command. For details, see Authentication Using Environment Variables.

sh dswareTool.sh --op modifySSDSplitGranularity -splitGranularity splitGranularity -ssdMediaSize ssdMediaSize -ssdMediaNum ssdMediaNum

      Parameter description:

      • splitGranularity: specifies the split size in GB. The value must be an integer. If the device capacity cannot be divided into an integer, use the integral part.
      • ssdMediaSize: specifies the capacity of an SSD card or NVMe SSD device, in GB.
      • ssdMediaNum: specifies the number of SSD cards or NVMe SSD devices on a server.

For example, run the sh dswareTool.sh --op modifySSDSplitGranularity -splitGranularity 800 -ssdMediaSize 2400 -ssdMediaNum 5 command.

If the following information is displayed, the configuration is successful:
      Operation finish successfully.
