Adding Storage Resources

Adding Storage Resources

Log in to the FusionStorage Manager (FSM) node and configure the iSCSI function. Then, create a logical unit number (LUN) in the storage pool based on service planning and connect the LUN to VMware vSphere.

FusionStorage Block has been configured.

The management plane IP addresses and iSCSI plane IP addresses of all controller VMs (CVMs) have been obtained.

You have obtained FusionStorage Block

Enable the iSCSI function for all CVMs.

    1. On the FusionStorage Block Self-Maintenance Platform, choose Resource Pool > Block Storage Clients.
    2. Select all CVMs in the right pane.
    3. Click Configure iSCSI.

A dialog box is displayed, showing all selected CVMs.

    4. Click Enabled.

A warning dialog box is displayed.

    5. Click OK to enable the iSCSI function for selected CVMs in batches.
    6. On the Block Storage Clients page, locate the row that contains the first CVM, click More, and select Configure iSCSI Port.

      A dialog box is displayed.

    7. Click Add.

      A dialog box is displayed.

    8. Set the following parameters:

      • iSCSI IP: Set it to the iSCSI plane IP address of the CVM.
      • Port: Set it to 3260.

    9. Click OK.

The Configure iSCSI Port window is closed, and the iSCSI port is successfully added.

    10. Add iSCSI ports for all CVMs. For details, see 6 to 9.

Configure automatic storage adapter scanning on the ESXi host after the host starts up.

When the ESXi host restarts, the VBS process in the CVM has not provided the storage service. Therefore, the storage path may be lost. To prevent this issue from occurring, you are advised to perform the following operations so that the ESXi host scans the storage adapter in 5 minutes after starting up.

    1. Locally decompress FusionStorage Block to obtain in vmware.
    2. On vClient, select the ESXi host and choose Configuration > Storage on the right side of the page.
    3. Select a local storage device with Device attribute set to Local. Then, record the name of the local storage, as shown the red box in Figure 6-69.

Figure 6-69  Name of the local storage

    4. Right-click the local storage and choose Browse Datastore from the shortcut menu.

      A dialog box is displayed.

    5. Click , select Upload File, and upload to the local storage.
    6. Use PuTTY and the management plane IP address to log in to the ESXi host as user root.

If the public and private keys are used to authenticate the login, perform the operations based on Using PuTTY to Log In to a Node in Key Pair Authentication Mode.

Before the login, ensure that the SSH function of the ESXi host is enabled.

Perform the following operations to enable the SSH function:

      1. On vClient, select the target ESXi host and choose Configuration > Security Profile in the right pane.
      2. In the upper right corner of the Security Profile page, select Properties.
      3. In the service list, select SSH, click Options, and set the SSH status.

If the SSH function is no longer required, perform the same operations to disable the SSH function.

    7. Run the following command to switch to the local storage directory:

cd name of the local storage

name of the local storage is the name queried in 13.

For example, run the cd /vmfs/volumes/5462cc1a-e8a65078-fc82-ac853db05130 command.

After navigating to the preceding directory, run the ls command to query the uploaded file

    8. Run the following command to execute the configuration script:

esxcli software vib install -d name of the local storage/ -f

For example, run the esxcli software vib install -d /vmfs/volumes/5462cc1a-e8a65078-fc82-ac853db05130/ -f command.

    9. Run the following command to query script execution results:

esxcli software vib list | grep huawei

This script is successfully executed if the following information is displayed:

      huawei-fs-iscsi-rescan 5.0.0-1.00 Huawei CommunitySupported xxxx-xx-xx

    10. Perform 12 through 19 to configure automatic storage adapter scanning on all ESXi hosts after they start up.

Configure iSCSI storage and connect the hosts to the VMware system.

    1. After configuring iSCSI on FSM, you can configure the iSCSI storage based on the planned services. For details about configuration operations, see Configuration > Block Storage Service Administrator Guide > Resource Management in FusionStorage Product Documentation .

After FusionStorage Block is installed and configured, you can use FusionStorage Block storage resources.
