Scenarios

Log in to a server using PuTTY through an Ethernet port.

Prerequisites

Conditions

The PC is connected to the management network port of the server by a network cable.

Table 9-6 lists the data required for performing this operation.

PuTTY is available. You are advised to download the latest version from its official website.

Procedure

    1. Double-click PuTTY.exe.

      The PuTTY Configuration dialog box is displayed.

    2. Set the following login parameters:

      • Host Name (or IP address): Enter the IP address of the server.
      • Port: Set it to the default value 22.
      • Connection type: Select the default value SSH.
      • Close window on exit: Select the default value Only on clean exit.
      NOTE:

      After setting Host Name, set Saved Sessions and save the settings. When you attempt to log in to the server through the network port next time, double-click the IP address saved in Saved Sessions.

    3. Click Open.

      The PuTTY window is displayed, providing a login as: text box for entering the username.

      NOTE:
      • If you log in to the server the first time, the PuTTY Security Alert window is displayed. You can click Yes, which indicates that you trust this site, to enter the PuTTY operation window.
      • If you enter an incorrect username or password for more than four consecutive times, you must reconnect to PuTTY and log in to the server again.

    4. Enter the username in login as, and press Enter.
    5. Enter the password in Password, and press Enter.

      After you log in to the server, the host name of the server is displayed on the left of the command prompt.
