(Optional) Configuring a Management Network Switch

This section describes how to configure a management network switch.

Procedure

  1. Log in to management network switch through the console port.

    Set Speed(baud) to 9600, Data bits to 8, Stop bits to 1, Parity to None, and Flow control to None. There is no authentication by default. For details about the operation, see chapter Networking for Switches Not Shared by the Front and Back Ends > Logging In to a Switch Through a CONSOLE Port.

    If the following information is displayed, press Ctrl+C.

    You are prompted to set a password (the following output is for reference only). If security measures have been taken to protect the equipment room where the devices reside, there is no need to set a serial port password because if you forget the password, the devices cannot be managed. If a serial port password is set, record the password and notify the device administrator of the password.

    An initial password is required for the first login via the console.

  2. Create management VLAN.

  5. Optional: Configure SNMP.

    Perform the following operations only when the upper-layer NMS needs to manage the local switch through SNMP. To ensure system security, you are advised to use SNMPv3, as well as the authentication protocol and encrypted protocol in this example when you configure SNMP.
