Configuring IPv6 Address

This section describes how to implement network communication among the installation PC, switches, and deployment nodes.

Procedure

  1. Connect the installation PC to the management switch.

    Connect the installation PC to the management switch that is connected to port NIC1 of the storage node, as shown in Figure 5-4.

  2. Add the switch port to which the installation PC connects to the management network VLAN.

    If the ID of the management network VLAN is VLAN200, the switch port ID is 0/0/10. The switch configuration script is as follows:

  3. Configure a temporary IP address within the management network segment for the installation PC.

    The temporary IP address must belong to the management network segment and cannot be listed in the configuration file.

    1. Choose Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center > Change adapter setting.
    2. Double-click Local Area Connection. On the page that is displayed, click Properties.
    3. Double-click Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6). In the dialog box that is displayed, select Use the following IPv6 address and enter an IP address and subnet prefix length.
    4. Click OK to return to the Local Area Connection Properties dialog box, Click OK.

  4. Configure an IP address for deployment node.
    1. See chapter Appendix Common System Information and Basic System Operations > Logging In to a Storage Node Using the KVM to log in to the deployment node.

      NOTE:

      You can configure the following IP addresses on only one node. The italics in the commands are configured based on actual IP address planning and this applies to other sections.

      During the process, you can run the TMOUT=0 command to avoid automatic disconnections due to timeout.

    2. Run the ip -6 addr add Temporary IP address/Prefix length dev NIC1 command to configure a temporary IP address for port NIC1.

      • The temporary IP address must belong to the management network segment and is not listed in the configuration file.

      • The prefix length is the prefix length of the temporary IP address.

    3. Run the following commands to configure an IP address that is within the back-end network segment based on the networking.

      • For 10GE networking: Run the ifconfig SLOT4-0.ID Port Of Back-End IP Address 1 netmask Back-End Network Mask command.
      • For IB networking: Run the ifconfig SLOT4-0 Port Of Back-End IP Address 1 netmask Back-End Network Mask command.
      Parameter description:
      • ID in SLOT4-0.ID indicates the ID of the virtual network port where the back-end RoCE card resides. It is the same as the VLAN ID of its connected switch and the default value is 2. If the VLAN ID configured for the back-end storage network switch is not 2, change the ID here. For details, see section Configure the PFC function of DCB in chapter Configuring Switches > Configuring Switches on a 10GE Network > Networking for Switches Not Shared by the Front and Back Ends > Configuring Back-End Storage Network Switches.

      • The back-end IP address 1 is the IP address corresponding to SLOT4-0 under Node for Deployment in the configuration file.
      • The back-end network mask is the back-end network mask configured under Cluster in the configuration file.

    4. Run the route -A inet6 add default gw IP address of the installation PC command to add the default network gateway for the deployment node.

      The default gateway must be the IP address configured in 3.

      A default gateway can ensure that the installation PC and storage node can still communicate with each other after the storage node is configured according to the configuration file and the network service is restarted. Therefore, do not skip this operation.

  5. Check network configurations.
    1. On the installation PC, run the ping -6 Temporary IP address command to check whether the installation PC communicates with port NIC1 properly.
    2. Run ipconfig and record the IP address and mask of the installation PC.
    3. On the node, run the route command to record the default gateway in the default column.
    4. On the node, run the ifconfig NIC1 and ifconfig SLOT4-0.ID or ifconfig SLOT4-0 commands to record the IP addresses and masks of the ports.

    If the network configuration is incorrect, configure it again by referring to the preceding commands.

Example of IP Address Configuration for a Storage Node

  • IP address of the installation PC: feco:1::3
  • Temporary IP address and prefix: fec0:1::2
  • Prefix: 64
  • Back-end IP address 1: 172.16.0.1
  • Back-end network mask: 255.255.0.0
