Configuring RAID Parameters

  1. When information shown in the following figure is displayed during the server startup, press Ctrl+R.

  2. Delete foreign configurations and unnecessary VDs.

    All hard disk data and RAID information will be lost after you delete a RAID configuration. Back up data before performing this operation.

    • If some hard disks have been used for RAID configuration, you need to delete the configuration.

    If you can see the Foreign View tab, some hard disks have been used for RAID configuration (the disks are being used not for the first time, for example, you are checking the disk or reinstalling the OS). As a result, the actual number of disks will be different from that on the VD Mgnt screen and the configurations need to be deleted. To delete a configuration, select the ID of the VD to be deleted press F2 and then Enter, choose Clear, and press Enter.

    • If a VD is not required, you need to delete it.

    Select the ID of the VD to be deleted, press F2, choose Delete VD, and press Enter.

  3. Press F2, select Create Virtual Drive, and press Enter.

  4. Set the parameters as follows:

    RAID Level: RAID-1

    PD per Span: N/A

    Drives: 2 x 600 GB hard disks

    Parameter description:

    RAID Level: RAID level, such as RAID 1, RAID 5, and RAID 50.

    PD per Span: number of hard disks in each span of RAID 50 or RAID 60. For example, for the RH5885H V3 (4 TB) with 14 hard disks configured as RAID 50, PD per Span should be set to 7.

    Drives: available disks. [ ] indicates whether a hard disk has been selected for RAID configuration. You can select or deselect a hard disk by pressing Enter.

    Basic Settings: VD storage space.

    Advanced: advanced RAID parameters, including Strip Size, Read Policy, Write Policy, I/ O Policy, Disk cache Policy, Initialize, and Configure HotSpare.

  5. Select Advanced and press Enter. Set the parameters as follows, select OK, and press Enter.

    Strip Size=128KB

    Read Policy=Normal

    Write Policy=Write Back with BBU

    I/O Policy = Direct

    Disk cache Policy = Disable

    Emulation = Default

    Initialize=[X]

    After you select Initialize, a confirmation dialog box will be displayed indicating the initialization will delete all data from the virtual drive.

  6. On the dis played Create New VD screen, select OK and press Enter. In the displayed dialog box, select No and press Enter.

  7. In the displayed dialog box, select OK and press Enter.

  8. Press F2, select Create Virtual Drive, and press Enter.

  9. Set the parameters as follows. The following uses 14 disks as an example.

    RAID Level: RAID-50

    PD per Span: 7

  10. Select Advanced and press Enter. Set the parameters as follows, select OK, and press Enter.

    Strip Size=128KB

    Read Policy=Normal

    Write Policy=Write Back with BBU

    I/O Policy = Direct

    Disk cache Policy = Disable

    Emulation = Default

    Initialize=[X]

  11. On the dis played Create New VD screen, select OK and press Enter.

  12. Select Yes and press Enter to enable SSD caching.

    VD0 and VD1 information is displayed.

  13. On the Ctrl Mgmt tab screen, set VD0 as the boot device, select Apply, and press Enter.

  14. Press F2, select Create CacheCade Virtual Drive, and press Enter.

  15. Set the parameters as follows, select OK, and press Enter.

  16. Select OK and press Enter.

  17. Choose Forced System Reset from the drop-down list to restart the system.
