Modifying the hosts File

Modifying the hosts File

Edit the hosts files on the two HANA server nodes in the HA cluster to implement their host name resolution.

  1. Log in to a SAP HANA server node and run the vi /etc/hosts command to edit the hosts file.
  2. Enter i to enter the editing mode, add parsing statements of the two HANA hosts to the end of the file.

    The actual statements vary according to the host name and IP address (service IP address) of the customer's environment. This section uses the following as an example:

    10.5.1.10  HW00001  HW00001
    10.5.1.11  HW00002  HW00002
    10.5.2.10 HW00001SR  HW00001SR
    10.5.2.11 HW00002SR  HW00002SR
    192.168.40.155 HW00001MG  HW00001MG
    192.168.40.156 HW00002MG  HW00002MG

  3. Press ESC and enter wq! to save the file and exit.
  4. Log in to the other SAP HANA server node, run the vi /etc/hosts command to edit the hosts file, and add the following two host name parsing statements to the end of the file. This section uses the following as an example:

    10.5.1.10  HW00001  HW00001
    10.5.1.11  HW00002  HW00002
    10.5.2.10 HW00001SR  HW00001SR
    10.5.2.11 HW00002SR  HW00002SR
    192.168.40.155 HW00001MG  HW00001MG
    192.168.40.156 HW00002MG  HW00002MG

  5. Press ESC and enter wq! to save the file and exit.

    Using the SAP HANA server nodeHW00001 as an example, the operation procedure is as follows:

    HW00001: # vi /etc/hosts
    #               "named" name server.
    # Syntax:
    # IP-Address  Full-Qualified-Hostname  Short-Hostname
    127.0.0.1       localhost
    # special IPv6 addresses
    ::1             localhost ipv6-localhost ipv6-loopback
    fe00::0         ipv6-localnet
    ff00::0         ipv6-mcastprefix
    ff02::1         ipv6-allnodes
    ff02::2         ipv6-allrouters
    ff02::3         ipv6-allhosts
    10.5.1.10  HW00001  HW00001
    10.5.1.11  HW00002  HW00002
    10.5.2.10 HW00001SR  HW00001SR
    10.5.2.11 HW00002SR  HW00002SR
    192.168.40.155 HW00001MG  HW00001MG
    192.168.40.156 HW00002MG  HW00002MG
