Configuring the HANA System Replication Channel

Configuring the HANA System Replication Channel

You need to configure the system replication channel between the two HANA servers. Before the configuration, you must stop the HANA database and configure the IP addresses and host names used for system replication in the global.ini configuration file.

The procedure is as follows:

  1. Log in a SAP HANA server (HW00001 in this example) as the root user.
  2. Run the su - s00adm command to switch to a database user. In the command, s00adm is an example user and must be changed to the actual database user.
  3. Run the HDB stop command to stop the database. After the database is stopped, run the exit command to switch back to the root user.

    HW00001:/ # su - s00adm
    HW00001:/usr/sap/S00/HDB00> HDB stop
    HW00001:/usr/sap/S00/HDB00> exit
    HW00001:/ #
    NOTE:

    In the preceding information, s00adm is the database user name automatically generated during HANA database installation. In the user name, s00 indicates the database SID in lowercase.

  4. Edit the global.ini file in /hana/shared/S00/global/hdb/custom/config. (In the path, S00 indicates the database SID and must be changed to the actual SID.)

    Run the command vi /hana/shared/S00/global/hdb/custom/config/global.ini.

    Enter i to switch to the edit mode.

    Add the following fields to the global.ini file: (The following are examples. Replace the IP address with the 10GE IP address dedicated to system replication of the peer server. Replace the host name with the host name of the peer server.)

    [system_replication_communication]
    listeninterface = .global
    [system_replication_hostname_resolution]
    10.5.2.11 = HW00002

  5. Press ESC to switch the vi editor to the CLI mode. Press the colon (:) to switch to the bottom line mode. Type wq and press Enter to save the modification and exit the vi editor.

    The process is similar to the following:

    HW00001:/ # vi /hana/shared/S00/global/hdb/custom/config/global.ini
    [system_information]
    usage=production
    [memorymanager]
    global_allocation_limit=262144
    [persistence]
    basepath_datavolumes=/hana/data
    basepath_logvolumes=/hana/log
    [system_replication_communication]
    listeninterface = .global
    [system_replication_hostname_resolution]
    10.5.2.11 = HW00002

  6. Log in to the other SAP HANA server as the root user. Use the same method to stop the HANA database and edit the global.ini file. Remember to change the peer IP address and host name.

    The process is similar to the following:

    HW00002:/ # vi /hana/shared/S00/global/hdb/custom/config/global.ini
    [system_information]
    usage=production
    [memorymanager]
    global_allocation_limit=262144
    [persistence]
    basepath_datavolumes=/hana/data
    basepath_logvolumes=/hana/log
    [system_replication_communication]
    listeninterface = .global
    [system_replication_hostname_resolution]
    10.5.2.10 = HW00001
