Huawei SD-WAN solution uses the Agile Controller-Campus to centrally deploy and manage enterprise networks. Each enterprise network consists of one or two hub sites, multiple aggregation sites (optional), and multiple branch sites. In Figure 1-1, the enterprise network is divided into three layers: physical network (underlay network), logical network (overlay network), and service policy layer. During network planning and deployment, you need to establish a physical network, deploy a logical network, and configure service policies based on service requirements in sequence.

  • Underlay network

The underlay network can be an IP or MPLS network. If the underlay network is an IP network, ensure that IP addresses are reachable. If the underlay network is an MPLS network, all enterprise services can share one or more MPLS VPNs. The underlay network is the basis of the SD-WAN solution. The overlay network can be built only after connectivity of the underlay network is achieved.

  • Overlay network

An overlay network is a logical network abstracted from a physical network. Based on the underlay network where connectivity is achieved, overlay network technologies such as DSVPN, GRE, and IPsec are used to create VPNs that connect sites, and BGP is used for route exchange on the overlay network.

  • Service policies

Service policies are configured on the overlay network to meet QoS, security, reliability, and service experience requirements of enterprise services. The service policies include QoS policies, intelligent path selection policies, and security policies.
