Description

The SYNC_FAIL alarm indicates that the batch backup of the databases of the active and standby system control, switching, and timing boards fails.

Parameters

When you view an alarm on the network management system, select the alarm. In the Alarm Details field display the related parameters of the alarm. The alarm parameters are in the following format: Alarm Parameters (hex): parameter1 parameter2...parameterN. For details about each parameter, refer to the following table.

Parameter 1

Indicates the type of the error.

  • 0x1f: The database backup fails.
  • 0x20: The check of the software version of the active and standby system control, switching, and timing boards fails.
  • 0x21: The communication between the active and standby system control, switching, and timing boards fails.
  • 0x22: Data is changed during the upgrade of the standby system control, switching, and timing board and therefore is inconsistent with that on the active system control, switching, and timing board.
  • 0x23: A forced switchover is triggered before the database backup is completed.
Parameter 2 Its value is always 0xff.
Parameter 3 Its value is always 0xff.

Impact on the System

When this alarm occurs, data synchronization between the active and standby system control, switching, and timing boards fails, and the active/standby switching between the two boards is unavailable.

Possible Causes

Possible causes of the SYNC_FAIL are as follows:

  • The software versions of the active and standby system control, switching, and timing boards are inconsistent.
  • The communication fails during the batch backup of the databases of the active and standby system control, switching, and timing boards.
  • Message sending fails or the database is detected damaged during the batch backup of the databases of the active and standby system control, switching, and timing boards.
  • Data has changed during the data backup operation. As a result, the data between the active and standby system control, switching, and timing boards are different.
  • A forced switchover is triggered before the database backup is completed.

Procedure

  1. Query the alarm on the NMS, and determine the fault type based on Parameter 1.
  2. Optional: (Optional) If Parameter 1 is 0x20, the software versions differ between the active and standby system control, switching, and timing boards.

    The software versions differ between the active and standby system control, switching, and timing boards

    Upload the software version from the standby system control, switching, and timing board. Check if the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to the next step.

    The software versions of the active and standby system control, switching, and timing boards are the same.

    Go to other causes.

  3. Optional: (Optional) If Parameter 1 is 0x21, communication is interrupted during the data backup operation. If the interruption is transient, the system automatically restarts batch backup; if the interruption lasts long, contact Huawei technical support engineers for handling the alarm.

    The interruption is transient

    The system automatically restarts batch backup. Check whether the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to the next step.

    The interruption lasts long

    Contact Huawei engineers.

    The communication is normal

    Go to other causes.

  4. Optional: If Parameter 1 is 0x22, it indicates that data is changed during the upgrade of the standby system control, switching, and timing board and therefore is inconsistent with that on the active system control, switching, and timing board.
    1. Reseat the standby system control board.
    2. If the alarm persists, check for other causes.
  5. Optional: If Parameter 1 is 0x23, it indicates that a forced switchover is triggered before the database backup is completed.
    1. Warm reset the alarming board. For details, see Resetting Boards in the Supporting Tasks.
    2. If the alarm persists, check for other causes.
  6. Optional: (Optional) If Parameter 1 is 0x1f, contact Huawei technical support engineers for handling the alarm.
