Description

The OTUk_BDI alarm indicates that an NE receives an OTUk backward defect indication (BDI). When detecting a signal fail (SF) condition using the section monitoring (SM) field, an NE sends a BDI signal (all bits of the BDI byte are "1") to its upstream NE. Upon receiving the BDI signal, the upstream NE reports an OTUk_BDI alarm.

k indicates the level of rate, its value is 2 or 3.

Impact on the System

The signal quality of services carried on the optical port that reports an OTUk_BDI alarm deteriorates.

Possible Causes

  • Cause 1: Signals received contain an OTUk_BDI signal.

    The following figure shows details. NE 1 and NE 2 interconnect with each other, and traffic flows from NE 1 to NE 2. When detecting an OTUk_BDI signal in signals received, the board of NE 1 reports an OTUk_BDI alarm.



  • Cause 2: An board on a downstream NE of the NE that reports an OTUk_BDI alarm reported an OTUk_AIS, OTUk_LOF, OTUk_LOM, OTUk_SSF, or OTUk_TIM alarm.

    The following figure shows details. Traffic flows from NE 1 to NE k. When an board on a downstream NE of NE 1 detects an OTUk_AIS, OTUk_LOF, OTUk_LOM, OTUk_SSF, or OTUk_TIM alarm signal, the downstream NE sends a BDI signal to NE 1. When detecting the BDI signal, the board of NE 1 reports an OTUk_BDI alarm.



Procedure

  1. Cause 1: Signals received contain an OTUk_BDI signal.
    1. Check whether signals received contain an OTUk_BDI signal. If the signals contain an OTUk_BDI signal, rectify the fault in the signals.
    2. Check whether the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to 2.
  2. Cause 2: An board on a downstream NE of the NE that reports an OTUk_BDI alarm reported an OTUk_AIS, OTUk_LOF, OTUk_LOM, OTUk_SSF, or OTUk_TIM alarm.
    1. On the NMS, check for an OTUk_LOF, OTUk_LOM, OTUk_AIS, OTUk_TIM, or OTUk_SSF alarm on each downstream board. If a downstream board reports any such alarms, clear these alarms.
    2. Check whether the OTUk_BDI alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, contact Huawei engineers to handle the alarm.
