ALM_IMA_LIF

ALM_IMA_LIF

Description

The ALM_IMA_LIF alarm indicates that the local end of an IMA link fails to delimit received IMA frames.

Attribute

Alarm Severity Alarm Type

Communication alarm

Parameters

When you view an alarm on the network management system, select the alarm. In the Alarm Details field display the related parameters of the alarm. The alarm parameters are in the following format: Alarm Parameters (hex): parameter1 parameter2...parameterN. For details about each parameter, refer to the following table.

Name Meaning

Parameter 1, Parameter 2

ATM trunk ID.

Impact on the System

When the ALM_IMA_LIF alarm is reported, the alarmed IMA link is unavailable and the number of available links in the IMA group decreases. If the service bandwidth configured for the IMA group is higher than that provided by the available E1 links in the IMA group, services over the IMA port are congested. Consequently, user cells are lost.

After the ALM_IMA_LIF alarm is cleared, the alarmed IMA link becomes available.

Possible Causes

Possible causes of the ALM_IMA_LIF alarm are as follows:

  • The physical path that carries the alarmed IMA link reports SDH alarms, such as R_LOS, R_LOF, and MS_AIS.
    NOTE:

The cause is only for OSN 550.

  • The IMA protocol configuration at one end of the alarmed IMA link is different from that at the other end.
  • A VC-12 path on the alarmed IMA link is damaged.
  • The alarmed IMA link is faulty.

Procedure

  1. Check whether SDH alarms are generated in the physical path that carries the alarmed IMA link, such as R_LOS, R_LOF, and MS_AIS.

    If... Then...

    Any SDH alarms are generated

Clear these SDH alarms and check whether the ALM_IMA_LIF alarm is cleared. If the ALM_IMA_LIF alarm persists, go to the next step.

    No SDH alarm is generated

    Go to the next step.

  2. On the U2000, check whether the IMA protocol configuration at one end of the alarmed IMA link is different from that at the other end.

    If... Then...

The IMA protocol configurations are different between both ends

Change the IMA protocol configurations to the same at both ends and check whether the ALM_IMA_LIF alarm is cleared. If the ALM_IMA_LIF alarm persists, go to the next step.

The IMA protocol configuration at both ends is the same

    Go to the next step.

  3. On the U2000, check whether the cross-connections configured for the alarmed IMA link are correct.

    If... Then...

    The cross-connections are incorrect

Rectify the cross-connections and ensure that the physical path carrying the IMA link is normal. Check whether the ALM_IMA_LIF alarm is cleared. If the ALM_IMA_LIF alarm persists, go to the next step.

    The cross-connections are correct

    Go to the next step.

  4. Check whether the fibers or cables are correctly connected to the ports on the local NE and opposite NE.

    If... Then...

    A fiber/cable connection is incorrect

Rectify the connection. Check whether the ALM_IMA_LIF alarm is cleared. If the ALM_IMA_LIF alarm persists, go to the next step.

    All fiber/cable connections are correct

    Go to the next step.

  5. Check whether fibers or cables connected to the ports of the local NE and opposite NE are faulty.

    If... Then...

    Fibers or cables are incorrect

Replace the faulty fibers or cables. Check whether the ALM_IMA_LIF alarm is cleared. If the ALM_IMA_LIF alarm persists, go to the next step.

All fibers or cables are correct

    Go to the next step.

  6. Contact Huawei technical support engineers to handle the alarm.
