ETHOAM_SELF_LOOP

Description

The ETHOAM_SELF_LOOP alarm indicates that a MAC port is looped back when the point-to-point ETH-OAM function is enabled. This alarm is generated when the MAC port of a board receives an OAM protocol packet from itself or the board after the loopback detection function is enabled.

Parameters

When you view an alarm on the network management system, select the alarm. In the Alarm Details field display the related parameters of the alarm. The alarm parameters are in the following format: Alarm Parameters (hex): parameter1 parameter2...parameterN. For details about each parameter, refer to the following table.

Name Meaning

Parameter 1

Indicates the port number.

Parameter 2, Parameter 3

Parameter 2 is always 0x00, and Parameter 3 is always 0x01. These parameters are meaningless.

Parameter 4

Indicates the cause for the loopback.

  • 0x01: self-loop of the port
  • 0x02: self-loop of the board
  • 0x03 - 0xff: types for expansion.

Impact on the System

If the automatic disabling function is enabled for the port, services at the port are interrupted. If the automatic disabling function is not enabled, broadcast storms may occur.

Possible Causes

Possible causes of this alarm are as follows:

  • The optical fiber in the transmit direction of the port is connected to the optical fiber in the receive direction of the same port.
  • The optical fibers in the transmit and receive directions of the port are connected to other ports on the same board.
  • The PHY/MAC loopback is manually configured at the port.

Procedure

  1. Check whether the optical fiber in the transmit direction of the port is connected to the optical fiber in the receive direction of the same port.

    If... Then...

    The optical fiber in the transmit direction of the port is connected to the optical fiber in the receive direction of the same port.

    Reconnect the optical fibers correctly. Then, check whether the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to the next step.

    The optical fibers are correctly connected

    Go to the next step.

  2. Check whether the optical fibers in the transmit and receive directions of the port are connected to other ports on the same board.

    If... Then...

    The optical fibers in the transmit and receive directions of the port are connected to other ports on the same board

    Reconnect the optical fibers properly. Then, check whether the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to the next step.

    The optical fibers in the transmit and receive directions of the port are not connected to other ports on the same board

    Go to the next step.

  3. Check whether the PHY/MAC loopback is manually configured at the port.

    If... Then...

    The PHY/MAC loopback is manually configured at the port

    Release the loopback manually or wait 5 minutes until the U2000 automatically releases the loopback. Then, check whether the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to the next step.

    The PHY/MAC loopback is not manually configured at the port

    Go to the next step.

  4. Contact Huawei technical support engineers to handle the alarm.
