Detecting Ethernet Performance Events

Ethernet service performance events are used to count the packets transmitted and received and the transmission quality of Ethernet services.

Data boards count the packets transmitted and received on each Ethernet port. The statistical items include the number of packet losing events and the number of bytes in corrupted packets transmitted and received.

Data boards monitor performance. The chips on most data boards support statistics. For example, in the case of 15 minutes' performance statistics collection, a data board finds an idle performance register, deletes the data in the register at the beginning of each period, and then counts the performance events. At the end of each period, the data board saves the performance statistics into the register.

Data boards read the number of packets entering each port and report it to the platform. Then, the platform detects whether the RMON statistical value crosses the preset performance event threshold.

  • If the RMON statistical value does not cross the threshold within a period of time, the platform directly reports the RMON statistical value to the NE.
  • If the RMON statistical value crosses the threshold within a period of time, the platform reports an RMON threshold-crossing event to the NE.
