ODUk_PM_BDI

Description

The ODUk_PM_BDI alarm indicates that an NE receives an ODUk PM backward defect indication (BDI). When detecting a signal fail (SF) condition using the PM field, an NE sends a BDI signal (all bits of the BDI byte are "1") to its upstream NE. Upon receiving the BDI signal, the upstream NE reports an ODUk_PM_BDI alarm.

Possible Causes

Possible causes of this alarm are as follows:

  • Cause 1: Signals received contain an ODUk_PM_BDI signal.

    The following figure shows details. NE 1 and NE 2 interconnect with each other, and traffic flows from NE 1 to NE 2. When detecting an ODUk_PM_BDI signal in signals received, the board of NE 1 reports an ODUk_PM_BDI alarm.



  • Cause 2: The opposite board directly connected to the NE that reports an ODUk_PM_BDI alarm reported an ODUk_PM_LCK, ODUk_PM_OCI, ODUk_PM_SSF, ODUk_PM_TIM, OTU_LOF, OTU_LOM, or R_LOS alarm.

    The following figure shows details. NE 1 and NE 2 interconnect with each other, and traffic flows from NE 1 to NE 2. When the board of NE 2 detects an ODUk_PM_LCK, ODUk_PM_OCI, ODUk_PM_SSF, ODUk_PM_TIM, OTU_LOF, OTU_LOM, or R_LOS alarm signal, NE 2 sends a BDI signal to NE 1. When detecting the BDI signal, the board of NE 1 reports an ODUk_PM_BDI alarm.



  • Cause 3: The board reporting an ODUk_PM_BDI alarm is faulty.

Procedure

  1. Cause 1: Signals received contain an ODUk_PM_BDI signal.
    1. Check whether the alarm is reported. If the alarm is reported, perform a hardware loopback on the transmit and receive optical ports. For details, see Hardware Loopback.

      A hardware loopback interrupts services.

    2. Check whether the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, the board reporting the alarm is faulty; in this case, go to 3. If the alarm is cleared, signals received contain an ODUk_PM_BDI signal; in this case, rectify the fault in the received signals.
  2. Cause 2: The opposite board directly connected to the NE that reports an ODUk_PM_BDI alarm reported an ODUk_PM_LCK, ODUk_PM_OCI, ODUk_PM_SSF, ODUk_PM_TIM, OTU_LOF, OTU_LOM, or R_LOS alarm.
    1. On the network management system (NMS), check for an R_LOS, OTUk_LOF, OTUk_LOM, ODUk_PM_LCK, ODUk_PM_OCI, ODUk_PM_TIM, or ODUk_PM_SSF alarm on the downstream board that directly connects to the NE reporting an ODUk_PM_BDI alarm. If the board reports any such alarms, clear these alarms.
    2. Check whether the ODUk_PM_BDI alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to 3.
  3. Cause 3: The board reporting an ODUk_PM_BDI alarm is faulty.
    1. Check whether a pluggable optical module is installed on the board. If yes, replace the pluggable optical module; if no, replace the board.
    2. Check whether the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, contact Huawei engineers to handle the alarm.
