CES_RDI

Description

The CES_RDI alarm indicates a failure in remote CES services. Upon detecting a fault in CES services, the opposite end sets the R bit in control word to 1 and returns the RDI signal to the local end. Upon receiving the RDI signal, the local end reports the CES_RDI alarm.

When this alarm is reported, it indicates that excessive packets are lost at the opposite end.

Possible Causes

Possible causes of the CES_RDI alarm are as follows:

  • The opposite end receives the LOS, LOF, or AIS signal.
  • The opposite receive board is faulty.
  • The local transmit board is faulty.

Procedure

  1. Check whether the opposite end reports the R_LOS, R_LOF, or MS_AIS alarm.

    If... Then...

    The R_LOS, R_LOF, or MS_AIS alarm is reported

    Clear these alarms first. Check whether the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to the next step.

    The R_LOS, R_LOF, or MS_AIS alarm is not reported

    Go to the next step.

  2. Perform a cold reset for the opposite receive board by using the U2000 or reseat the opposite receive board. Check whether the alarm is cleared.

    If the services on the alarmed board are not protected, a cold reset on the board causes service interruption.

    If... Then...

    The alarm persists

    Go to the next step.

    The alarm is cleared

    No further action is required.

  3. Replace the opposite receive board and check whether the alarm is cleared.

    If... Then...

    The alarm persists

    Go to the next step.

    The alarm is cleared

    No further action is required.

  4. Perform a cold reset for the local transmit board by using the U2000 or reseat the local transmit board. Check whether the alarm is cleared.

    If the services on the alarmed board are not protected, a cold reset on the board causes service interruption.

    If... Then...

    The alarm persists

    Go to the next step.

    The alarm is cleared
