Description

The LTI alarm indicates loss of synchronization clock sources configured for the timing unit.

Parameters

When you view an alarm on the network management system, select the alarm. In the Alarm Details field display the related parameters of the alarm. The alarm parameters are in the following format: Alarm Parameters (hex): parameter1 parameter2...parameterN. For details about each parameter, refer to the following table.

  • 0x01: All the synchronization sources of the system clock are lost.
  • 0x02: All the synchronization sources of the first 2 MHz phase-locked source are lost.
  • 0x03: All the synchronization sources of the second 2 MHz phase-locked source are lost.

Impact on the System

The clock of the local NE enters the free-run state and cannot be synchronized with the clocks of other NEs.

If the free-run state lasts for a long time, bit errors on the receive side, pointer justification, or alignment signal loss may occur.

Possible Causes

Possible causes of this alarm are as follows:

  • The clock configurations are incorrect.
  • The optical fiber (in the case of tracing the line clock source) or cable (in the case of tracing the tributary clock source) is broken.
  • No external clock source is input (in the case of tracing the external clock source).
  • The clock source is configured to be non-revertive, or is blocked, or is incorrectly configured.
  • The external clock, the clock delivered by the system control unit, and the local free-run clock are lost.
  • All the clock sources in the clock source priority table fail.
  • A board is faulty.

Procedure

  1. Check whether the configured synchronization sources are available.

    If... Then...

    The configured synchronization sources are unavailable

    Ensure that the configured synchronization sources are available. Then, check whether the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to the next step.

    The configured synchronization sources are available

    Go to the next step.

  2. Check whether the traced clock source is normal.

    If... Then...
    The line clock source is traced, and the line board report the R_LOS, R_LOF, or R_LOC alarm Clear the R_LOS, R_LOF, or R_LOC alarm. Then, check whether the LTI alarm is cleared. If the LTI alarm persists, go to the next step.
    The tributary clock source is traced, and the tributary board reports the T_ALOS or E1_LOS alarm Clear the T_ALOS or E1_LOS alarm. Then, check whether the LTI alarm is cleared. If the LTI alarm persists, go to the next step.
    The external clock source is traced Ensure that the external clock cable is securely connected and is properly functioning. Then, check whether the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to the next step.

  3. The timing unit is faulty. Replace the system control, cross-connect, and timing board. Then, the alarm is automatically cleared.
