The MPLS_TUNNEL_OAMFAIL alarm indicates that the source and sink nodes of a tunnel fail to negotiate on the OAM protocol.

Alarm Severity Alarm Type

Communication alarm

Impact on the System

MPLS APS switching is triggered and services are switched to the protection tunnel.

Possible Causes

Possible causes of the MPLS_TUNNEL_OAMFAIL alarm are as follows:

  • The OAM function is enabled only on either the source or the sink node of the tunnel.
  • The tunnel has been interrupted before the OAM function is enabled.

  1. On the U2000, check whether the OAM function is enabled on NEs at both ends of the tunnel. Enable the OAM function if it is not enabled at either end.
  2. If the alarm persists, check whether the sink node of the alarmed tunnel reports the HARD_BAD, ETH_LOS, or R_LOS alarm.
    If... Then...

    the alarm is reported

    Exclude the alarms HARD_BAD, ETH_LOS, and R_LOS.

    the alarm is not reported

    Go to the next step.
  3. Clear the alarm. After the OAM protocol negotiation is successful, the MPLS_TUNNEL_OAMFAIL alarm clears.
