CES_JTROVR_EXC

Description

The CES_JTROVR_EXC alarm indicates that the average number of overflows per second in the jitter buffer is larger than the upper threshold value in a period. If the average number of overflows per second is smaller than the lower threshold value in another period, this alarm is cleared automatically.

NOTE:

Overflows occur when the jitter buffer is full and can no longer receive service packets; as a result, packet loss occurs.

Impact on the System

The buffer does not have enough space for received frames and therefore frames are lost.

Possible Causes

Possible causes of the CES_JTROVR_EXC alarm are as follows:

  • The buffer size configured for the CES service is small.
  • At the opposite end, the service frame format is different from the frame format allowed by the port.
  • Clocks are not synchronous.
  • A large number of hops are deployed on the network side, which intensifies the jitter.

Procedure

  1. Query the configured buffer size. According to the network plan, check whether Jitter Compensation Buffering Time can be set to a larger value.
  2. If yes, set Jitter Compensation Buffering Time to a larger value to expand the buffer. Then, check whether the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to 3.
  3. Check whether the frame format of the service received at the opposite end is the same as the frame format configured at the opposite port. If the frame formats are different, change the frame format configured at the opposite port to the same as the frame format of the service received at the opposite end.
  4. Check whether the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to 5.
  5. Check whether the LTI alarm or other clock-related alarms are generated on the alarmed NE. If such alarms are reported, clocks are not synchronous and the incoming rate of the buffer is far higher than the outgoing rate of the buffer.
  6. If yes, clear the LTI alarm and other clock-related alarms first and then check whether the CES_JTROVR_EXC alarm is cleared. If the CES_JTROVR_EXC alarm persists, go to 7.

    NOTE:
    If a large number of hops are deployed on the network side, the CES jitter may increase. In addition, severe jitter causes unbalanced network traffic. If a large number of burst packets are transmitted, the jitter buffer cannot receive all these packets and therefore overflows.

  7. According to the network plan, check whether the number of hops on the network side can be decreased.
  8. If yes, decrease the number of hops on the network side. Then, check whether the CES_JTROVR_EXC alarm is cleared. If the CES_JTROVR_EXC alarm persists, contact Huawei technical support engineers to handle the alarm.

Related Information

When the delay for an NNI port to receive CES packets is unstable, the percent of the CESoETH frames overflowing from the jitter buffer exceeds the specified percent threshold. As a result, the jitter buffer overflows. If the percent of the CESoETH frames overflowing from the jitter buffer is larger than the specified percent threshold within a certain period, the average number of overflows in a second becomes larger than the upper percent threshold. The CES_JTROVR_EXC alarm is then reported.
