Description

The HP_CROSSTR alarm indicates that a performance indicator of the higher order path crosses the threshold.

Parameters

When you view an alarm on the network management system, select the alarm. In the Alarm Details field display the related parameters of the alarm. The alarm parameters are in the following format: Alarm Parameters (hex): parameter1 parameter2...parameterN. For details about each parameter, refer to the following table.

Name Meaning

Parameter 1, Parameter 2

The two most significant bits of Parameter 1 indicate the performance monitoring period.

  • 0x01: 15 minutes
  • 0x02: 24 hours
NOTE:
The six least significant bits of Parameter 1 together with Parameter 2 indicate a performance event ID.

Impact on the System

The number of bit errors in the higher order path module crosses the threshold. As a result, the service quality may deteriorate or services may be interrupted.

Possible Causes

Possible causes of this alarm are as follows:

  • The performance of the laser on the line board at the opposite end deteriorates.
  • The clock performance at the local or opposite end deteriorates.
  • The receive optical power of the line board at the local end is out of range.
  • The optical fiber performance deteriorates.

Procedure

  1. Check whether the performance of the laser on the line board at the opposite end deteriorates.

    If... Then...
    The laser performance deteriorates

    Replace the laser. Then, check whether the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to the next step.

    The laser performance does not deteriorate

    Go to the next step.

  2. Check whether the clock performance at the local or opposite end deteriorates.

    If... Then...

    The clock performance deteriorates

    Re-configure clock tracing. After the configured performance monitoring period ends, check whether the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to the next step.

    The clock performance does not deteriorate

    Go to the next step.

  3. Check whether the receive optical power of the line board at the local end is out of range.

    If... Then...
    The receive optical power is higher than the upper threshold Use an optical power attenuator to decrease the value of the receive optical power. Then, check whether the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to the next step.
    The receive optical power is lower than the lower threshold Increase the value of the input optical power. Then, check whether the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to the next step.
    The receive optical power is within the specified range Go to the next step.

  4. Perform loopbacks at the local end and the opposite end to locate the faulty board.

    If... Then...
    The timing unit at the opposite end reports a higher order adaptation performance event The timing unit at the opposite end is faulty. Replace the system control, cross-connect, and timing board. Then, check whether the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to the next step.
    The timing unit at the local end reports a higher order adaptation performance event The timing unit at the local end is faulty. Replace the system control, cross-connect, and timing board. Then, check whether the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to the next step.

  5. Check whether the optical fiber performance deteriorates.

    If... Then...
    The optical fiber performance deteriorates Replace the optical fiber.
    The optical fiber performance does not deteriorate Contact Huawei technical support engineers to handle the alarm.
