Description

This alarm indicates that the optical module on an optical port is offline. This alarm is generated when the board detects that an optical module is offline.

Absence of the optical module leads to an interruption of services through by the corresponding optical port.

Possible Causes

  • Cause 1: The optical module does not exist or is not correctly inserted in the optical port.

  • Cause 2: The optical module or the board is faulty.

Procedure

  • Check the alarm information on the NMS and record the IDs of the port and channel where the alarm is generated.
  • Cause 1: The optical module does not exist or is not correctly inserted in the slot.
    1. Check whether the optical port where this alarm is generated has an optical module.

      If...

      Then...

      The optical port has no optical module.

      Insert an optical module into the optical port properly.

      The optical port has an optical module.

      See the alarm handling procedure for cause 2.

  • Cause 2: The optical module or the board is faulty.

    If...

    Then...

    The board supports pluggable optical modules

    Replace pluggable optical modules. For details, see Replacing the Optical Module. If the alarm persists, replace the faulty board.

    The board does not support pluggable optical modules

    Reset the board. For details, see Resetting Boards.

    If the alarm persists, replace the faulty board.
