Communication alarm

Impact on the System

When the UHCS alarm is reported, some cells with multiple bit errors are found during cell the delimitation process at the port. Consequently, user cells are lost.

Possible Causes

Possible causes of the UHCS alarm are as follows:

  • Some bit errors occur in the SDH receive path connected to an ATM port on the alarmed board. That is, some bit error alarms, such as the B1_SD, B2_SD, or B3_SD, occur in the SDH path.
  • The ATM processing chip on the alarmed board is faulty.

  1. On the U2000, check whether alarms indicating that the signal degrades due to excessive errors, such as B1_SD, B2_SD, and B3_SD, are reported at the local NE.
    If... Then...

    The alarms are reported

Handle the alarms, and check whether the UHCS alarm is cleared. If the UHCS alarm persists, go to the next step.

    The alarms are not reported

    Go to the next step.

  2. Reset (cold) or reseat the board that reports the UHCS alarm, and then check whether the UHCS alarm is cleared.

If the services on the alarmed board are not protected, a cold reset on the board causes service interruption.

    If... Then...

    The UHCS alarm is cleared

    No further action is required.

    The UHCS alarm persists

    Go to the next step.

  3. Replace the board that reports the UHCS alarm.
