Description

The LPS_UNI_BI_M alarm indicates a mismatch of the single-ended/dual-ended mode in a linear multiplex section protection (MSP). This alarm is applicable to only linear MSPs. This alarm is generated when the single-ended/dual-ended mode at the opposite end indicated by the three least significant bits of the K2 byte is inconsistent with the ended/dual-ended mode at the local end for a period of time (2 seconds by default).

MSP becomes unavailable. If an optical fiber cut or other faults occur at this time, services are interrupted.

Possible Causes

Possible causes of this alarm are as follows:

  • The MSP configurations are incorrect.
  • The boards configured with MSP are faulty.
  • The cross-connect units are faulty.

Procedure

  1. Check whether the MSP configurations at the two ends are consistent.

    If... Then...

    The MSP configurations are inconsistent

    Ensure that the MSP configurations at the two ends are consistent. Then, check whether the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to the next step.

    The MSP configurations are consistent

    Go to the next step.

  2. Check whether the boards configured with MSP are faulty at the two ends.

    If... Then...

    The boards configured with MSP are faulty

    Replace the faulty boards. Then, check whether the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to the next step.

    The boards configured with MSP are properly functioning

    Go to the next step.

  3. Check whether the cross-connect units at the two ends are faulty.

    If... Then...

    The cross-connect units are faulty

    Replace the system control, cross-connect, and timing boards. Then, check whether the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to the next step.

    The cross-connect units are properly functioning

    Go to the next step.

  4. Contact Huawei technical support engineers to handle the alarm.
