Impact on the System

A board that reports a HARD_BAD alarm cannot work properly. If the board is a standby board, an active/standby switchover cannot be performed.

Possible Causes

Possible causes of the HARD_BAD alarm are as follows:

  • The board is not properly connected to the main board.
  • A BUS_ERR alarm is reported.
  • The board software version does not match the NE software version.
  • The power supply fails.
  • The board is faulty.
  • The main board is faulty.

Procedure

  1. Query the HARD_BAD alarm on the NMS to determine the board that has reported the alarm and to identify the cause based on the alarm parameters.
  2. Check whether the board is properly connected to the main board.

    If... Then...

The board is not properly connected to the main board

Re-install the board to ensure that the board is properly connected to the main board. Check whether the HARD_BAD alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to the next step.

The board is properly connected to the main board

    Go to the next step.

  3. On the NMS, check whether a BUS_ERR alarm has been reported.

    If... Then...

A BUS_ERR alarm has been reported

Clear the BUS_ERR alarm. Check whether the HARD_BAD alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to the next step.

    No BUS_ERR alarm is reported

    Go to the next step.

  4. Check whether the board software version matches the NE software version.

    If... Then...

The board software version does not match the NE software version

Upgrade the software. Check whether the HARD_BAD alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to the next step.

The board software version matches the NE software version

    Go to the next step.

  5. On the NMS, check whether a POWER_ABNORMAL alarm has been reported.

    NOTE:
If the NE is powered off and immediately powered on, the board detects abnormal voltage and reports a POWER_ABNORMAL alarm.
    If... Then...

    A POWER_ABNORMAL alarm is reported

Reconnect the NE to the power supply device or replace the power supply device with a stable one to clear the POWER_ABNORMAL alarm. Check whether the HARD_BAD alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to the next step.

    No POWER_ABNORMAL alarm is reported

    Go to the next step.

  6. Check whether a service board or system control, switching, and timing board is faulty.

    If... Then...

    A board is faulty

Reseat and replace service boards and system control, switching, and timing boards in turn. Check whether the HARD_BAD alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to the next step.

    No board is faulty

    Go to the next step.

  7. Contact Huawei technical support engineers to handle the alarm.
