Description

The HSC_UNAVAIL alarm indicates that the hot-standby status of an SCC board is abnormal.

Parameters

When you view an alarm on the network management system, select the alarm. In the Alarm Details field display the related parameters of the alarm. The alarm parameters are in the following format: Alarm Parameters (hex): parameter1 parameter2...parameterN. For details about each parameter, refer to the following table.

Parameter 1

Indicates the working/protection status of the alarmed SCC board.

  • 0x00: Working
  • 0x01: Protection

Parameter 2

Indicates the slot ID of the alarmed SCC board.

Parameter 3

Indicates the alarm type.

  • 0x01: The alarmed SCC board is in the bad status.
  • 0x02: A service board detects the bad state of the alarmed SCC board.
  • 0x04: The alarmed SCC board detects a type II BUS_ERR alarm.
  • 0x80: The time, which elapsed after a successful cold reset on the alarmed SCC board, is less than five minutes.

Parameter 4, Parameter 5

The values are always 0xff, and these parameters are meaningless.

Impact on the System

If protection switching is implemented between the working and protection SCC boards when an HSC_UNAVAIL alarm persists, services may be interrupted.

Possible Causes

Possible causes of this alarm are as follows:

  • Cause 1: The alarmed SCC board is being upgraded.
  • Cause 2: The protection SCC board was cold reset 5 minutes or less ago.
  • Cause 3: The working and protection SCC boards have inconsistent database versions.
  • Cause 4: The protection SCC board cannot be detected or is faulty.
  • Cause 5: The backplane is faulty.

Procedure

  1. Cause 1: The alarmed SCC board is being upgraded.
    1. No operation is required. The HSC_UNAVAIL alarm may indicate that database backup on the alarmed SCC board is not complete. If this is the case, the HSC_UNAVAIL alarm automatically clears after the database backup is complete. Do not perform any operations when the HSC_UNAVAIL alarm persists.
    2. Check whether the alarm clears. If the alarm persists, go to 2.
  2. Cause 2: The protection SCC board was cold reset 5 minutes or less ago.
    1. No operation is required. The HSC_UNAVAIL alarm may indicate that the protection SCC board is synchronizing data with the working SCC board (5 to 8 minutes required). If this is the case, do not cold reset or remove the working SCC board when the HSC_UNAVAIL alarm persists.
    2. Check whether the alarm clears. If the alarm persists, go to 3.
  3. Cause 3: The working and protection SCC boards have inconsistent database versions.
    1. Check whether the working and protection SCC boards have consistent database versions. For details, see Querying the Board Information Report.
    2. If the working and protection SCC boards have inconsistent database versions, contact Huawei engineers to upgrade software.
    3. Check whether the alarm clears. If the alarm persists, go to 4.
  4. Cause 4: The protection SCC board cannot be detected or is faulty.
    1. Check whether the protection SCC board can be detected or is faulty. If the protection SCC board cannot be detected, install an SCC board; if the protection SCC board is faulty, replace it.
    2. Check whether the alarm clears. If the alarm persists, go to 5.
  5. Cause 5: The backplane is faulty.
    1. Check for a BUS_ERR or T_LOSEX alarm. If either alarm exists, clear it.
    2. Check whether the alarm clears. If the alarm persists, contact Huawei engineers to handle the alarm.
