Description

The MS_CROSSTR alarm indicates that a performance indicator of the multiplex section of signals received by the line board crosses the threshold

Parameters

When you view an alarm on the network management system, select the alarm. In the Alarm Details field display the related parameters of the alarm. The alarm parameters are in the following format: Alarm Parameters (hex): parameter1 parameter2...parameterN. For details about each parameter, refer to the following table.

Name Meaning

Parameter 1

Indicates the optical port number.

Parameter 2, Parameter 3

The two most significant bits of Parameter 2 indicate the performance monitoring period.

  • 0x01: The performance monitoring period is 15 minutes.
  • 0x02: The performance monitoring period is 24 hours.
NOTE:
The six least significant bits of Parameter 2 together with Parameter 3 indicate a performance event ID.

Impact on the System

The services at the optical port are affected.

Possible Causes

The possible cause of this alarm is as follows:

  • The threshold of the multiplex section performance indicator is set to a large or small value.
  • Bit errors occur in the multiplex section.

Procedure

  1. On the U2000, check whether the thresholds of multiplex section performance indicators regarding MSBBE, MSES, MSSES, MSCSES, and MSUAS are out of range.

    If... Then...

    The threshold of a multiplex section performance indicator is out of range

    Change the threshold to the default value. Then, check whether the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to the next step.

    The thresholds of the multiplex section performance indicators are within the specified ranges

    Go to the next step.

  2. View alarms on the U2000 to check whether the board that reports the MS_CROSSTR alarm also reports other multiplex section bit error alarms, such as B2_EXC or B2_SD.

    If... Then...
    The B2_EXC or B2_SD alarm is reported Clear the B2_EXC or B2_SD alarm. Then, check whether the MS_CROSSTR alarm is cleared. If the MS_CROSSTR alarm persists, go to the next step.
    The B2_EXC or B2_SD alarm is not reported Go to the next step.

  3. Perform loopbacks at the local end and the opposite end. After the performance monitoring period ends, locate the faulty board.

    If... Then...
    A board at the opposite end reports a multiplex section performance event The transmit unit at the opposite end is faulty. Replace the faulty board.
    A board at the local end reports a multiplex section performance event The receive unit at the local end is faulty. Replace the faulty board.
