Description

The MS_REI alarm indicates that the M1 byte in signals received by the line board indicates remote multiplex section bit errors. After receiving multiplex section background block error (B2 BBE) signals, the line board at the opposite end sends the number of B2 BBE signals to the local end using the M1 byte.

Possible Causes

Possible causes of this alarm are as follows:

  • The B2 bit errors are received at the opposite end.

  • The receive unit at the opposite end is faulty.
  • The transmit unit at the local end is faulty.

Procedure

  1. On the U2000, view alarms reported at the opposite end to check whether there are B2 bit errors on the line board at the opposite end.

    If... Then...
    There are B2 bit errors on the line board at the opposite end Clear the bit errors by referring to the sections about the B2_EXC and B2_SD alarms.
    There are no B2 bit errors on the line board at the opposite end Go to the next step.

  2. Perform a self-loop on the corresponding optical port at the local end to check whether the number of bit errors in the MS_REI performance event increases.

    If... Then...
    If the number of bit errors does not increase The transmit unit at the opposite end is faulty. Replace the faulty line board.
    If the number of bit errors increases The receive unit at the local end is faulty. Replace the faulty line board.
