Description

The HP_REI alarm indicates that the board at local end receives from the board at the opposite end a message indicating remote bit errors in the higher order path.

Parameters

When you view an alarm on the network management system, select the alarm. In the Alarm Details field display the related parameters of the alarm. The alarm parameters are in the following format: Alarm Parameters (hex): parameter1 parameter2...parameterN. For details about each parameter, refer to the following table.

Parameter 1

Indicates the optical port number. The parameter has a fixed value of 0x01.

Parameter 2, Parameter 3

Indicate the VC-4 path ID.

Impact on the System

This alarm indicates that NEs along the service trail receive bit errors and the quality of higher order services deteriorates. This alarm does not have any impact on the local end.

Possible Causes

The possible cause of this alarm is as follows:

The opposite end receives a B3 bit error alarm, such as B3_EXC or B3_SD.

Procedure

  1. Check whether the equipment is securely grounded and there are any intense interference sources around the equipment.

    NOTE:
    If a few B3 bit errors occur at the opposite end, the fault usually lies in the equipment instead of the optical path.
    If... Then...

    The equipment is poorly grounded

    Ground the equipment securely. Then, check whether the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to the next step.

    There is an intense interference source around the equipment

    Move the interference source away, or install the equipment at a position far away from the interference source. Then, check whether the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to the next step.

    The equipment is securely grounded, and there is no intense interference source around the equipment

    Go to the next step.

  2. Check whether the opposite end reports a B3 bit error alarm, such as B3_EXC or B3_SD.

    If... Then...

    The opposite end reports the B3_EXC or B3_SD alarm

    Clear the B3_EXC or B3_SD alarm. Then, check whether the HP_REI alarm is cleared. If the HP_REI alarm persists, go to the next step.

    The opposite end does not report theB3_EXC or B3_SD alarm

    Go to the next step.

  3. Perform loopbacks at the local end and the opposite end to check whether the cross-connect units and the tributary boards at the two ends are properly functioning. Check upstream NEs one by one to locate the faulty board.

    If... Then...
    A board at the opposite end reports a B3 bit error alarm The receive unit at the opposite end is faulty. Replace the line board first. If the alarm persists, replace the tributary board. If the alarm still persists, replace the system control, cross-connect, and timing board.
    A board at the local end reports a B3 bit error alarm The transmit unit at the local end is faulty. Replace the faulty board.

  4. If the alarm persists, contact Huawei technical support engineers to handle the alarm.
